Observations re: Shanelle Lorraine at SBE 2012

I disagree with this entire post -- especially the part that you state that their are some women players sexier than you.

Agree, Trig has that mysterious / amazon thing going on. Like a wild animal she is ready to prance or pounce at any given moment...

Tap, tap tap. :bow-down:

I don't think it's a question of there having ever been an opportunity and better (or even prettier) players were overlooked. As far as I can tell, the opportunity was created out of thin air, specifically for these two players. It's not like there was a qualifier or even a beauty contest and these two won- someone knew one or both of these particular women, knew they would both be nearby for the other event, and said, "hey, let's get them together as a promo event for our room!"

Should either of the ladies have said, "Oh, no- I really couldn't- there are so many other women who are more qualified than me. Ask so and so instead?"

Should someone have jumped up and said, "Hey! You can't do that! It would hurt women's pool as a sport, and it would be a huge snub to all women who have been studying the game for decades!" Well, if so, it was pretty quiet here on the boards until the match was actually over.

What's the real goal here? Make Shanelle quit pool? Make Charlie Williams quit setting up silly events that pay?

In pool we say you make your own opportunities on the table, right? If you're mad about the way this happened, go out and promote something better and make your own opportunities.

I really think the best way to hurt women's pool- or anyone's pool- is to hate on other players, and to hate on any opportunites others have made. We women are naturally too vicious- we need to save that for the table, and to start supporting each other off the table. We're smarter than this.

I made one post asking a question but hey, if you have an obsession about this girl that is ok I guess. I just hope your obsession/fascination with her does not turn into stalking or anything else
So talking about her = obsession?

Pretty narrow parameters for qualification, don't you think?

These threads are funny to me. And as a female, I'm not the least bit offended or upset about you all are talking about.

I've been passed over for a college scholarship because I'm white (my Hispanic g/f got it in instead). Some women players who are sexier than I who play less than me will get sponsorship and more opportunities. I'm okay with that. That's how the world is. No biggie off my back.

The most important thing to me is how I represent the sport I love and that I get to compete. I'll wear what I can (and try to push the envelope at times, lol) and play hard because I'm able to right now.

Why is everyone so bent out of shape over things that happen in everyday life all the time all over the world? lol. Because it's pool-related? ha!

btw, I seem to recall a couple of years ago we were on the same topic about Borana being on the cover of IP and she was a B player. Good for her! Good for Shanelle for having all these opportunities. You go girl!
Exactly my point...:)

lol. True enough.

Then again, unless you're a female pro who is often overlooked with regards to tournament invites and live streams, its not really any of your concern either. Yet, you clicked the link, read the thread, and added your two cents. No?

Remember when people would flock to watch two really good players go at it? Those days are completely over methinks....

Yes, I mentioned I was impressed she kept it together, and the frustration you could see is that drive to do better. I can see that in some instances, she has the glimmer of someone learning and wanting to play.

But maybe I'll ask this a different way ...

If I gave you let's say ... 8 months ... and $1000/month (so, $8000) could you teach me to use a jump cue?

If I gave your best friend, $16,000 to do it in 4 months, do you think he/she could?

I've heard a few people say using one is easy and can be learned in minutes. Without instruction, mind, they aren't that easy to use because it goes against what you think should happen. That very basic mistake is what I saw.

Now if people can be taught in minutes, and *if* you think I could pay you just shy of 10K and be taught, do you think it's possible (just maybe) that if I spent 4 years with an instructor, they could pull it off? (I won't add in fundamentals because I don't want to push the instructor too hard).

I personally don't use a jump cue. I kick at everything and I can tell you, it takes a long time to develop enough control to maneuver around that table. So what you are seeing is probably a few hundred hours of instruction in the four years, and the rest of the time, I assume she spent it doing pool related things like shoots and commercial stuff. Her cue in four years is more level than mine at times 2 years ago---I've played over ten years worth of pool. So I guess those instructions did some good.

She has a decent break. Actually she breaks pretty well and made a few long distance shots....something girls a kinda weak at. So if she puts a few things together...she might bust a few people up.

I'd be willing to say that in 4 days even I could teach her how to break harder and use a jump cue. As far as your stroke, you sure you aren't trying to hustle me? :D

I've nothing against her, I just think her last 4 years weren't spent learning pool. As I said, she can lay a safety, but to miss a pot by 1.5 diamonds ...

She should have stopped by Robin Dodson's table @ SBE and learned how to jump in 5 minutes, plus she could have gotten a deal on her video and a jump cue! :groucho:

This is for you guys who like watching Shanelle so much. She is right now playing in Taipei Amway Cup... representing USA???

This is stream of her playing XTP that was recorded.

Jackpot! My two favorite women to watch play pool.

I'm astonished why people are so surprised Shanelle is popular to watch. We have all seen beautiful pool being played by ugly people 1000 times over. We finally get to watch a goddess among mere mortals playing mediocre pool to break the monotony and people can't accept that???

Being completely honest. I have the brokest stroke in all of the universe.

Oh yeah, she works for poison at one of those product booths for BCA vegas, right?l She can't even leave if I annoy her....can't wait.

I would like to see her dress tail blow up like Marilyn Monroe on that ventilation grate
