Observations re: Shanelle Lorraine at SBE 2012

whats with these shanelle lorraine threads? She not a bad looking chick and looks a bit on the bigger side to me and is an ok pool player, but defiantly not worthy of this attention she is getting on here?
Then why give her more by responding to this thread at all?

Please let me know when and where you're going to wear that outfit. I want to have my camera ready.

My only gripe with this whole thing is that Shanelle is getting attention from sponsors while girls that can really play don't get a second glance. In a perfect world, sponsorship would be based on ability to play and not bra size. JMHO.
Point taken Rich, but it is not her fault.

Make sure the camera has a wide-angled lens please...:)

that's the point of an open forum. to argue against pointless arguments. kekeke...

LOL. True enough.

Then again, unless YOU'RE a female pro who is often overlooked with regards to tournament invites and live streams, its not really any of YOUR concern either. Yet, you clicked the link, read the thread, and added your two cents. No?

well i think i have seen 3 or 4 threads on her and i finally decided to make a post wondering why you guys are making a fuss about her.

just add her to the ever growing pile of talentless bimbos out there making a fortune out of the shallow voyeuristic world of reality tv and women's magazines, celebrity is a career now dontcha know.
Probably the most unfair post of 2012.

I don't think it's a question of there having ever been an opportunity and better (or even prettier) players were overlooked. As far as I can tell, the opportunity was created out of thin air, specifically for these two players. It's not like there was a qualifier or even a beauty contest and these two won- someone knew one or both of these particular women, knew they would both be nearby for the other event, and said, "hey, let's get them together as a promo event for our room!"

Should either of the ladies have said, "Oh, no- I really couldn't- there are so many other women who are more qualified than me. Ask so and so instead?"

Should someone have jumped up and said, "Hey! You can't do that! It would hurt women's pool as a sport, and it would be a huge snub to all women who have been studying the game for decades!" Well, if so, it was pretty quiet here on the boards until the match was actually over.

What's the real goal here? Make Shanelle quit pool? Make Charlie Williams quit setting up silly events that pay?

In pool we say you make your own opportunities on the table, right? If you're mad about the way this happened, go out and promote something better and make your own opportunities.

I really think the best way to hurt women's pool- or anyone's pool- is to hate on other players, and to hate on any opportunites others have made. We women are naturally too vicious- we need to save that for the table, and to start supporting each other off the table. We're smarter than this.

I would buy her dinner and let her win a set against me thats for sure.

I did offer Max Eberle my condolences when he got paired wiht her in the mix world event. Poor fella im sure
Oh c'mon JJ...most people can win a set against you...:)

I would hardly describe it as smart, smart is be able to build things like particle accelerators.
I would describe this type of "looks for profit" as a free ride, usually they just gold dig some rich guy. In this case I think there may be an element of dillusion.
I think you meant "delusion".

Sounds like someone swallowed a bitter pill?

Ga Young Kim and several other pro's play in heels too. Many of the top women (not all but more than you might think) try to look nice and sexy because they understand that pool's value to the mainstream public is in it's entertainment value. I hear players complain all the time that "I play better than this person, I should have more sponsorship than then." Sponsorship is not about how well you play, a sponsor is not paying you to play pool. They pay you to get them exposure, it's all about the bottom line. And Shanelle gets her sponsors exposure, period. The more you guys talk about her the more it does for her value.

I've met Shanelle and she is a very nice person, very friendly and has no misconceptions about her abilities.

Shanelle belongs in womens pro pool just about as much as Helena belongs in a sexy teddy on a stripper pole. But I would much rather watch Helena play pool. And don't get me wrong, I would also love to see Shanelle on a stripper pole with 10's, 20's and 50's on her...

She handled herself very well. There are a few things I saw that is holding her back. I don't want to sound like I'm an expert instructor, but as some has mentioned, she hasn't really been playing to her potential...

Yes, I mentioned I was impressed she kept it together, and the frustration you could see is that drive to do better. I can see that in some instances, she has the glimmer of someone learning and wanting to play.

But maybe I'll ask this a different way ...

If I gave you let's say ... 8 months ... and $1000/month (so, $8000) could you teach me to use a jump cue?

If I gave your best friend, $16,000 to do it in 4 months, do you think he/she could?

I've heard a few people say using one is easy and can be learned in minutes. Without instruction, mind, they aren't that easy to use because it goes against what you think should happen. That very basic mistake is what I saw.

Now if people can be taught in minutes, and *if* you think I could pay you just shy of 10K and be taught, do you think it's possible (just maybe) that if I spent 4 years with an instructor, they could pull it off? (I won't add in fundamentals because I don't want to push the instructor too hard).

I think both women are super hot.Pool needs more women players to keep the sport going, instead of dying as it is now. You know the speed of players and you are not forced to watch them.Attractive people have an advantage in all areas of society.Successful people use their talents to improve their position in life. I hope we have more women playing pool and working to improve their game.
I am going to hijack my own thread here.

What's with all this talk about pool dying?

I went to the SBE this year and the place was PACKED!

Because we can.

Because it's fun.

Because it is a free forum that allows us to express our OPINIONS.

The beauty of a free forum is that it also allows others to IGNORE threads of which, or with which they have NO interest.

Got to love the Internet.

And who's fussing...besides you...about this thread?

Excellent post, thanks...:)

I made one post asking a question but hey, if you have an obsession about this girl that is ok I guess. I just hope your obsession/fascination with her does not turn into stalking or anything else

Let's get this thread back on track. First of all, who likes looking at Shanelles breasts and asses when she bends over for a shot? Also, several other girls look good from behind but not so good from the front when they bend over to shoot. I like watching Christina play. She sure does look sexy when she wears tight clothing. And I also think Kelly Fisher and Karen Corr can really get things done when in a horizontal position.

These threads are funny to me. And as a female, I'm not the least bit offended or upset about you all are talking about.

I've been passed over for a college scholarship because I'm white (my Hispanic g/f got it in instead). Some women players who are sexier than I who play less than me will get sponsorship and more opportunities. I'm okay with that. That's how the world is. No biggie off my back.

The most important thing to me is how I represent the sport I love and that I get to compete. I'll wear what I can (and try to push the envelope at times, lol) and play hard because I'm able to right now.

Why is everyone so bent out of shape over things that happen in everyday life all the time all over the world? lol. Because it's pool-related? ha!

btw, I seem to recall a couple of years ago we were on the same topic about Borana being on the cover of IP and she was a B player. Good for her! Good for Shanelle for having all these opportunities. You go girl!

I disagree with this entire post -- especially the part that you state that their are some women players sexier than you.
