ive seen a few on the wfs category but just not sure what to get.

my weakest is probably consistency on my break and safeties.

umm in apa 9 ball im an 8.

kicks would help too. i like 2 or more rail kicks but there are still some i cant see.

i guess the part i need to work on the most is safeties. when i practice i just try to break and run and when i miss i rerack. sometimes i do line drills and norail drills but i get bored of those quick.

i know just playing an opponent is a good way to be forced into learning new things and not missing but im sure it wouldnt hurt to watch some stuff

thanks ahead of time!

Hi,

I was a SL8 in 9-ball last time I played in the APA over a year ago. I'm going to a similar phase as you regarding my safety play and my break.

If you're looking for a good instructional on the break shot (9-ball, 10-ball, 8-ball), Joe Tucker has by far the best instructional videos on the break shot anywhere. I highly recommend his first Racking Secrets video. It focusing mainly on 9-ball, the break and the rack. His Racking Secrets 2 Video set is very good too. It focuses a lot on 10-ball, some on 8-ball, and has lots of other great material. All his instructional videos are terrific.

Bert Kinister has several videos that focus just on Safety Play. I've spent a very limited amount of time doing few of Bert's drills and my safety game has gotten a little better. You can buy a monthly subscription and get access to all 90 plus of his instructionals. http://bertkinister.com/

There's a bunch of ways to learn kicking and safety play. You can devise your own game, similar to playing the ghost - but more like "Safe-ing the ghost". Break a rack, and try to dead-lock the next ball. When you get a good safe, take the ball off the table and do it for the next ball in rotation. How you determine a "good safe" is up to you... you can simply play for distance, play to hide the cueball or object ball. You can play it so that after you play your safe, play as the ghost and see if you can hit it. if you get a good hit, play safe again - continue this until the other player doesn't get a good hit. Then continue through the rack.

Also, there's a good amount of info on both safeties and kicking in the VEPS, from Dr. Dave http://dr-dave-billiards.com/veps/ I have this set and it's pretty informative, but for best results, take each little section to the table.

Safety play is all about speed control and being able to see where each ball is going; but controlling one perfectly.

Kicking is just like banking - for one rails. For 2 or more, there are some pretty good guidelines for both 2 and 3 rails out there. I don't have this particular dvd set, but it looks really good: http://www.pool-tools.com/blog/billiards/little-joe-villapandos-pool-i-q-kick-shots-dvd-review
