Has the "feel" of a single-layer tip, yet the advantages of being multi-layer -- e.g. greatly reduced mushrooming, for one thing. (Not that that's a problem -- everyone should have basic tip maintenance skills -- but it's nice to have to "rarely" do it!)

doesnt Mueller rate these pretty soft for a layered tip? I have used Moori MED, Everest, Redline (5280). I'm liking the Everest pretty well. gonna try something new, and was looking mainly at Kamui Black, or Onyx.Tiger Emerald for me:

But I have a couple cues that need tips, so might put a couple different ones on, and try it.
if it helps.. I will be installing this current NEW tip on a Universal LD shaft.
Muellers may, I'm not sure. I do know that this tip feels "Medium" to me, vs. its Medium-hard rating on the jewel case. (And consider the fact that I know what "Soft" feels like, since I'd been an Elkmaster fan for so long.)
But this tip is consistent -- haven't had a bad one yet, and my cue repair person (who introduced me to these tips) also says he hasn't found one yet that was "bad."
I've been using them for the past two years, and even the very first one I had installed is still in use, and performs as good as the day it was installed. Two years is not a long time in a tip's life, so obviously my experience with them is ongoing.
Try it, I think you'll like it!

Well here goes!
Based on this, I had my first Kamui Black Soft, installed on my universal smart shaft, will, be using My Blue Diamond Chalk to top it all off, be fun to compare! Trying things out tonight!

You won't be dissapointed at all with your choice. I bought the Kamui Black SS and put it on my Z2 shaft. I also bought the Blue Diamond chalk at the same time and the tip is amazing. It did mushroom just a little because I had the guy that installed it to leave a lot on the tip. I shaved about 3 layers off of it and I've not had any problems since. This tip is unlike any that I've ever had. I can move the CB around like never before. Everest tips aren't even close to the performance of the Kamui Black.

I tried the Kamui SS. I liked the overall feel, but the darn thing mushroomed on me after about 2 weeks. This drives me crazy as I can't stand to see the tip hanging over the end of the ferrule.
I figured to give Kamui another try so I tried a Kamui medium. Nice feel though it is pretty darn hard, and hasn't mushroomed after 2 months. I'm guessing this tip will last me over a year based on what I'm seeing. Though I like the feel a lot, the medium is just a tiny, tiny bit too hard for my liking. I may try a soft after I get back from Vegas on another shaft to see how I like it, but so far, the hard performs very, very well.

Just had a Kamui black installed in Medium. I'm thinking other layered tips would be considered "hard" by comparison. Haven't played enough to really make the call, but I like it so far.
I like the Kamui tan tips.
