Done with Predator

I have been playing with 314's for the past 7 years. ( roughly 4-5 shafts ) All of these shafts at some point became unplayable. I have accepted the "discount" several times because the "warranty" apparently covers absolutely nothing.

Recently I gave my 2 year old warped shaft to a predator rep at the SBE. He said he did not think the warp would be covered under warranty but they could try to straighten the shaft. I had never heard of this before but since I couldn't play with the shaft I thought what the hell. After weeks of waiting to find out about the shaft and several calls trying to inquire to no avail I recieved a letter stating my shaft was not covered under warranty due to exposure to moisture. ----i guess i must have forgotten that drunken skinny dipping session with my 314-----No mention of this magical straightening process.

Sorry about the rant - had to vent

I'm now a Tiger Ultra X LD Man. Should be here next week

Hmmm... Live here in Jacksonville where the HQ is, maybe that helps, but have never had an issue with the warranty, have had to replace 2 Z shafts in as many years from cracks between the spliced pieces on the shaft and got one tip replaced for free when the layers separated well before the end of the life of the tip. Quick response each time and pretty seamless transaction. I guess it just depends on the issue and who you talk to, and maybe they are tightening up their policies now, last one I had replaced was a year ago.

Let us know how the Tiger Ultra X LD plays. I'm always on the look out for something that performs well.

I seem to get ones with ferrules that crack all the time...

As this is (partly) about Predator warranty issues, does anyone know if you're covered if you've bought the shaft used, or does it only apply to the original owner?

Regular wood shaft does the job just fine.:D
I agree. I learned my lesson years ago when the Predators first came out. I broke the ferrule three times in six months. Each time I had to send the shaft to Clawson cues in Florida. I would be without the shaft for about a month each time it was repaired. I went back to a non-spliced shaft and never looked back.

I had the ferrule crack on one of mine here recently. I was the original owner and only had the shaft for like 4 or 5 months when the ferrule cracked but of course, I couldn't find the receipt. I called Predator and they basically told me to call Seyberts and have them do the repairs. At MY EXPENSE of course.

I wasn't too thrilled with that response but I didn't feel like dealing with it, so off to Seyberts it went.

Interesting thread and responses. I have been using pre cat 314's for about 5 or so years now, maybe longer and have no issues whatsoever. I break with my playing cue alot also. I guess I am lucky and should count my blessings!!

OP - Please let us know how you like you Tiger, I have heard really good things about them also and may try one out.

Best,

Russ...

I didn't know Predator LD shafts were so susceptible to these issues. Do OB and other LD shafts also have these problems due to the spliced construction?

That makes me even more happy with my 38 year old, old faithful solid maple shaft now, lol. Other than having to replace the ferrule once (after some clutz picked it up and broke with it a couple years ago - thinking it was his break cue), my shaft is as true as the day it was birthed. It has a boatload of deflection tho... I had a 4 time US Open "cashed" - the 1999 US National Am Champion - check it out and on his first shot, he completely whiffed the OB!

I'm in the same boat as you. I've had my 314 maybe 6 years, on a Schon CX03. Sometimes I break with it, never had any trouble at all.

Are we doing something wrong?

This is why you should go with an OB product. They have the best warranty and customer service in the industry. They are also made right here in the USA. Hopefully whatever product you choose you have better luck than your predator.

My OB2

My OB-2 has had no problems whatsoever and it has had 2 solid years of use. I did have a Predator Z2 shaft that worked great, but delaminated at the joint just after I sold it to a friend. I bought the Predator shaft second hand so I don't know exactly how much use it had before I got it.

I think your going to thoroughly enjoy the Tiger Ultra X LD ... I've been playing with it for over a year and IMHO it's got OB and Predator beat hands down .....

The feel is tremendous and Tony is great with his products ... guarantee you'll get much more satisfaction from him than any others ...

TIGER ROCKS

I've tried the rest and like the Tiger Ultra the best.

I don't like the taper on the Tiger Pro-X. Too bad 'cause it has a

nice solid hit.

The price is a lot better on the Ultra too!

I returned 2 shafts and was never even asked for the receipt, they were warrantying the shaft because it split when it shouldn't have, they didn't care how old it was or where I got it. My experience seems to be better than some...

Thanks for that. Probably a little easier if things are on your doorstep, rather than having to ship halfway across the world...

I have tried out about 10 OB shafts and they all hit too soft for me, but that was going back quite a few years. Their products have surley changed and progressed.

Edited to add: I wonder if my experience with the 314's is due to the fact that I bought a bunch of the old pre cat partials and just have them matched to my cues? Are the older ones better than the 314-2's??

Youre going to love the ultra, i bought one about 3 months ago and i will never use anything else. i also switched from a 314 and feel that im playing about a ball better. The adjustment time wasnt as bad as i thought, it only took me about 2 weeks to get used to it

How does the deflection compare?

Thats hard to say because my pred was 11.75 so it definitely deflects less then the pred but I have a friend with a 314_2 that says the tiger deflects less. I like the solid hit I get with the tiger the 314's are too spongy
