New OB 2012 Cues...anyone tried one yet?

I am considering buying a new OB Cue that they make themselves, not the one that has a Joss butt. I have a Schon with the metal joint and an OB Classic shaft. I am considering moving away fromt metal joint and was thinking about getting a cue with the 3/8x10 pin. Any reviews?

Why were you thinking of moving away from a SS joint? What are the disadvantages that you find with the SS joint? I was thinking about getting an OB made by Joss with the SS joint.

I have been playing with the same Schon since 1996 and it has always seemed lacking in the hit department. I have hit with cues that have the big pins in them with no SS joint and they seem to hit firmer. With the new OB cues they make themselves, I am hoping the butt would be better balanced then my current configuration of Schon Butt/OB Classic Shaft.

Thank you for your opinion. I'm new to the game and trying to learn as much as possible about cues before I buy a new one.

Let me give you a little heads up. There are many configurations of joint material and styles and pin sizes along with different shafts and shaft tapers and a lot of different ferule materials and many different tips.
There are hundreds of combinations of the above. If there was one perfect set up there would not be so many choices.
Everybody feels a cue different when they play with it.Most cues have there own unique feel.
You have to find the combination that works best for you.
I have a McFadden custom plain jane Birdseye maple cue with the shaft that came with it. It has a melamine ferule with a Chris Byrne medium layered tip.
It has a 3/8x10 pin flat faced non metal joint.
It works for me. Try as many cues as you can and see what feels good regardless of how it's built.

that is all very true but i feel that the SS joint stops the hit at the middle of the stick. i would like to feel the hit all the way down to the grip.

I have played with the OB shaft quite a bit and seem to like it a lot. One of my dad's buddies told me that he didn't know if i would like the ss joint, but then I get on the web and read articles from professionals like this: http://www.poolchat.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=6017 saying that the joint doesn't matter a whole lot. I am thinking that I am new enough to the game (only 20 years old without a whole lot of experience) that the switch to a ss joint won't be too bad. What do you guys think?

that is the butt that joss made for OB. not that there is anything wrong it, just saying. probably why they are marked down so much. the new line of cues are made totally by OB with their own balance system.

That is kinda what was steering me toward this cue. It seems like all the reviews I have read about Joss Cues on this forum have been positive.

Joss makes a good cue. For me, it would probably be the same hit as the setup I have now with the schon butt.
 
I'm not sold on the fact that the joint does not change the feel of a cue.
I have a Birdseye maple plain jane with a 3/8x10 brass pin and a flat faced wood to wood implex joint.
Last week I got to hit some balls with a cue that was exactly the same wood as mine but had a steel joint and it hit much firmer.
Just an observation on 2 cues that were very close except for the joint and two different makers.
