USBA and Their Dress Code Requirement

Hi Bob,

All though I agree with you in principle (following the dress code).... what we don't know is what admonishments if any the USBA President or Tournament Director may have shared with this player.

We all can make mistakes. He may very well have been embarrassed being the "lone wolf" so to speak.

If however, he repeats this transgression..... then he either changes clothes immediately or forfeits his matches until he or she complies.

Players' Meeting: Saturday, May 5th, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Preliminary Rounds: Sunday through Tuesday, May 6th-8th, 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

If Dress Code was discuss at the Player Meeting [as shown above on Saturday] , and Preliminary Rounds started Sunday.

There should been no excuse for Dress Code offense..period..

I won't get into the Bow Tie or Regular Tie issue/ requirement

Zensteve. I agree with your comment in early post

Point is... If you going to make requirement... Then Enforce it...
This an USBA Issue.... But let it be known when video or Live Stream spectators aren't BLIND!!!

Billiardshot say: Yes!

ACS Requirement
DRESS CODE
ALL EVENTS

• Players who do not meet the following dress code during Tournament Play may be required at the discretion of Referee / Staff
to change clothing and/or footwear.

• Failing to do so within 15 minutes will result in a loss of one game of the match being played. There will be an additional one
game loss for every additional 15 minutes the player is not in compliance.

• The dress code will not be in effect from 2AM to 8AM daily nor in any area clearly designated for practice or minitournaments.

• A Player may only protest whether an opponent meets the dress code before a match begins.

As a USBA Board Member [Zensteve]: What USBA Requirement??? To enforcement of Rule/Requirement? Just Look in the other direction??

Well...consistency of policy...100% compliance with the rules.... appears to be your gripe( I think).

Should women be subjected to the same dress code that the men are required to wear? Women having to look like men does not make sense to me.

Dieckman Said: Charlie Brown at THE SANG LEE 2006 let me play in sandals and white socks due to a medical condition I had at the time [SYPHIYLIS OF THE TOES]

billiardshot said: With a Medical/ DR slip this allow.

The second issue about Pedro you yourself answer.

The third issue you must be talking about can be read here; http://www.umb.org/Rules/OFFICIAL_UMB-TRAINERS.pdf

AS for Playing Naked ... Jeanette Lee was First..

Billiardshot answer: Yes

billiardshot said: As an USBA BOD you already know the answer [ UMB requirement: At the opening, at the presentation ceremony and while staying in the sports arena the following
tournament clothing is valid:
Black shoes, black trousers, black socks, smoking plain shirt or blouse with long sleeves, vest and
bow tie.

For sportswomen the same rules are applicable with the following exceptions: long-sleeved onecoloured
shirt or one-coloured blouse which is closed at the neck. Waistcoat and bow-tie are not
compulsory.

The wearing of Jeans and/or Cord-clothing is not allowed.

Zensteve, you right to be done. Because the rule/requirement are there on paper in Black and White.

But neither of us were at the Tournament. We both know that the Tournament Director have the final decision. but I see no serious action been enforced by the same Tournament Director when its come to Dress Code.

Oh in the video TD and USBA President are looking in the other direction. near the end of video

I just hope the USBA BOD take up this issue, involving Dress Code, during their meeting, if they planning on more Live Stream.

Thanks for the concern about the dress code and its enforcement (or perceived lack of enforcement). The rules of the tournament were discussed at the players’ meeting. Each player received a copy of the rules. The dress code rule, in pertinent part, stated:

If a player is not in the appropriate dress for a match, the Tournament Director will: a) ask the player to correct the situation immediately and if they cannot the player will have until their next match to make the needed changes if it is their first infraction; b) stop the match and give the player three minutes to meet the dress code if it is their second infraction. If the player fails to meet the dress code within the allotted time, the match is forfeited.

The dress code violation on the video occurred in the first round. The violation (playing in blue jeans) was brought to the players’ attention and corrected pursuant to (a) before the next match. The player complied with the dress code throughout the remainder of the tournament.

During the tournament, there were several other dress code violations that were brought to the involved player’s attention and corrected immediately pursuant to (a). These all involved starting to play without a bow tie. In all instances, the player had merely forgotten to put it on. The player put on the bowtie immediately when the violation was brought to his attention. There was one violation that was brought to the player's attention and was not corrected during the game. The strap on the vest had broken and could not be corrected immediately. The player found another vest before the start of the next game.

There were no second violations of the dress code by any player. We adopted and followed the dress code rule. We felt that the player should have the ability to correct a first violation by the start of the next game because of various scenarios where the violation could not be corrected immediately during the game where the violation occurred.

I hope this has helped shed some light on the situation.

Andy , Thanks for the Clarification and I' m 100% satisify with what you post. But with a12 hours span from player meeting to first match the Jean issue should never happened.

Again I realize the TD have the final decision.

With Youtube/ Live Stream more attention to rule/code need to be enforce, just as what is heard on mic by specators while viewing live stream.

Overall The event during last day of Live streaming look Great. Thank USBA and all involved for the final day live stream.

IMHO the Rules are the Rules, and apply to everyone. Sad the Officials CHARGED WITH ENFORCEMENT, did not see it that way.

You Wallet speaks louder then you can when you write a letter to the USBA of your frustration, and state you lost my entry for future events because of the guy llowed to play in JEANS!

Thank CocoboloCowboy, Maybe I will close my wallet to USBA/3C events. I can find another way to enjoy my time than just help promoted 3C.

Or maybe I'm disturbed this same TD did this at the Champion of Champion Event in March at the SBE http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=267361

Part of the above post /thread

Controversy marred the third day of play at the Champion of Champions as tournament director Charlie Brown awarded Pedro Piedrabuena a victory by forfeit when Mazin Shooni did not arrive on time for their 11:00 a.m. match. After waiting 15 minutes, Brown declared the forfeit. Mazin arrived a few minutes later, but Brown’s decision stood despite Mazin’s protest. With the forfeit in hand, Pedro remained undefeated, but not for long.

The forfeit was clearly on Mazin’s mind as he waited for his next round match against Miguel Torres. Mazin was critical of the decision by Brown. “The UMB has a rule for forfeits if a player fails to show on time,” Mazin explained, “but this is not a UMB event. It’s an exhibition.” Mazin was livid. “The tournament director made the decision when he knew I was on the way. I called. And the tournament director made the decision after talking to Pedro. It’s a decision that the director should make without speaking to the opposing player. He should have told Pedro to play the game. Everyone wanted to see us play.” With Mazin still fuming over the forfeit, he found it hard to concentrate, and Miguel Torres rolled over him to a 35 to 21 victory.
