At Buffalo Billiards the owner popped for the Pay Per View Steam and it was nice watching some of the matches over the last few days.

We would make bets on each match that we were sweating and the matches took on another dimension. We were actually pulling against the other sweaters picks and of course pulling for our horse.

The only downside to the whole event is that there were no speakers and we couldn't hear the commentary. The commentary is one of my favorite aspects of the matches, even though I have favorite commentators, I also enjoy hearing new talent and new dialogue.

But the thing that kind of shocked me was the number of EASY shots missed by many players.

I'm not sure if it was because we had no speakers to listen to the matches or if it was because we had sweat bets on each of the matches but it looked like there were a lot of easy shots that were missed.

Sure, I saw lots of stellar play. You're going to see that at the U.S. Open 1 Pocket Championship.

If you watched a bunch of these matches, were you shocked at some of the very easy shots that were missed by some of the world's best players?

Was there some reason for the easy misses or were the misses just magnified because we had no sound to watch them matches?

Whaddiya mean no commentary?
You were there, Joey.
In our room we often can't hear the commentary because of the sweaters.
The winners are crowing...the losers are complaining and suggesting the
alternative occupations that their horse should try instead of playing pool
and causing them to lose their cash.

I call it 'live chat'....it's just as good as SLN.

One guy was complaining about Daz...."How can I lose my money betting
against a guy who comes from a place that can't even SPELL one-pocket?"

Joey, give us a little rundown on what you heard at Buffalo's.

I cannot repeat the derogatory remarks that were said during the matches. The actors on SLN would blush if they had to repeat these lines.

I can't believe I messed up Saturday Night Live....it's SNL...
It must have been 'cause I bet on Frost.

C'mon, Joey...use your excellent command of the English language by
employing euphemisms.
One of our guys, every time his horse missed a shot, maintained that
his player practiced incest on a regular basis.

Is this allowed?

Well, I did hear on more than one occasion when there was a miss, a bettor yelling out, "My player is going to horse-copulate your player now."

Alex missed a shot and somebody said "FILIPINO? that's gotta be the Canuck
coming out in him."

..and apparently Frost should be cleaning latrines in a house of ill repute
in Ciudad Juarez.

Pro's do miss

That's what gives hope to other players Joey. Knowing that Pros miss from time to time,we will get our opportunity at the table. I watched some of the early matches, and do not have an analysis about why they missed or chose what I consider erroneous shots. I should withhold too much criticism, lest a pro who scours AZ finds me across the table in Tunica, and decides to disprove my judgement!

There were great matches. I especially enjoyed watching Billy Incardona play.

Billy made a great comeback against Danny Smith and showed plenty of heart.

I don't think you have to worry about any of the pros trying to make an example of you or me. That's a given any time you are playing any one of them. :D

No one has mentioned that the playing conditions were tougher than last year or that the players were tired at the end or any of the other excuses.

Maybe it was just the fact that we had no commentary and we were betting on virtually every single match and so regardless every time a player missed a shot, one of the bettors were either gloating in ecstasy or moaning in misery.

lol, yeah! I think we are so verbal, that when we watch silent films, our emotions are amplified. It is moreso when the amplification is done by a friend who is woofing your action!!!

I think the players missed because they have not bought a PRO-ONE lesson and made CTE the center of their lives.

Why in the world would anyone expect commentary when they are at a pool event in person,,,,,It was on the stream, so a smartphone and a earplug would get you there I guess, but to expect to hear Corey or Billy commenting on shots over the PA is ridiculous. But so is holding the US open championship in a Poolroom. That's what is wrong with american pool in general,,,,,,poolrooms are great, I love em, but as long as they are the best we can do with promoting championships there will never be any substantial growth or sponsorship.

Anyone see the World Snooker Championships a couple weeks ago?, Or Ronnie's winning check? When is the last time an american championship paid $400,000 out, period, let alone just for 1st place.

Championship Pool has got to get out of poolrooms or it's dead.

If you are talking about the US Open One Pocket event it was held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. I think you should go back and read things again. You can still probably find a way to say "American pool sucks" but at least try and understand what is going on in the thread.

I think every poster should have to pay $1 whenever they write the line "whats wrong with American pool". After six months of that we would have enough money to fund a tour.....or go to Mars.

Justin,,,,,don't assume please,,,,,,the statement is about American Pool in General,,,,,,and as a comparison I used the World Snooker Event in Liverpool. Anyone who saw both events know there is no comparison. I am American, I play American pool, 1 pocket primarily, and I love American pool. I would like in my lifetime to see it promoted better. I don't think American Pool sucks, I do think it's presentation to the public sucks. I don't think it's fair to the hard work and dedication the top players have put in to reach the levels they play at and almost none of them can make a living doing it. Having top players doing back room hustling to try to make ends meet doesn't say much for the sport imo. Look at the promotion of Golf, Tennis, or almost any other professional sport in comparison to pool. Pool halls are a great breeding ground for talent, and some are great venues for maybe regional qualifiers and the like, but the big stuff has to be an event, that is presented in a way that the public, not just pool players, but the public, want to be involved in.
I watched your stream last nite, and honestly I liked it, and the commentary by Corey and Billy were quite good,,,,,couldn't take much of the chatroom. My over-all impression of the stream though was simply,,,,,,as good as this contest is, it's a crying shame I have to watch it at 3am in the morning, over the internet, on a 22" monitor, with random lagging throughout the event.
I appreciate what you do, and why you do it,,,,,I just feel alot more needs to be done somehow for American Pool.

Like some posters, Renegade wasn't keeping up. Nothing new there either.

What's wrong with Amerian pool posts can be kind of like a cuss jar, except you've got to send in your $1 via paypal.

I was watching the youtuve video of Efren playing pool with those Bikini clad girls and I think American pool doesn't have enough Bikini clad girls playing pool. Ok, where do I send my dollar?

I detect a bit of protectionism,,,,,,keeping pool small somehow keeps JoeyA and others bigger!

There are a helluvalot of regulars to this forum that agree with the statements I have made in this thread, but they for the most part don't speak up because they are called out and made a villain, and unamerican, just like me. It's common for those people who have carved some little niche to try and protect it, in any field, which is exactly where american pool is today, which I understand,,,,,,but that doesn't make it good for pool.

I've had my say, so slam away,,,,,,who cares.
