OK, here's the deal. I have a bunch of Amex points racked up. I made the mistake of searching on Schon on the Amex points site. I can pretty much get a new (lower end) Schon with no out of pocket cost.

I am currently playing a Pechauer JC series cue. I don't have any real complaints about it. I play regularly and shoot to an APA 4 in both 8 ball and 9 ball. I expect to go up before the end of the summer season.

So I've got myself in a tizzy to go ahead and buy the Schon. Just wanted to hear someone chime in and say I'm crazy and that at my level I am fine with what I've got. Or be a total enabler and help push me over the edge.

Love to hear from anyone that has made a similar move and what the results were.

Seems to me you are making a big deal out of a small matter of personal choice. Why do you need any outside input to justify what you are going to do? You want that cue. You don't need it, you want it . Buy it.

A pool cue seems like a durable investment. Given that you can surely purchase a lot of other things with your points that will probably depreciate immediately and be collecting dust soon it's probably a wise choice to invest in a good brand of cue with the points.
 
Bought a McDermott with my Amex points. Needed a spare cue at the time. Sold it a few months ago for $150. Worked for me. Go for it.

YES!!! Buy the cue...you know you want to...just get that one free one, you won't get hooked...it won't lead to 57 different cues within the first year...it's not addictive...

Wait...were we talking about you or me?!?!? :p (Just kidding above...kinda...I think you already have your answer somewhere inside you and you're looking for outside justification from a whole crapload of pool enthusiasts and addicts...of course we're going to say "get it"!!!) :smile:
 
Thank you all for the helpful posts and the one douchie one.

I was looking for some light hearted responses and some fun friendly advise . I'll be playing out this week with my friends Schon and will make a decision after that.

I love my R6. It is hard to beat a Schon for the money. I bet you like it as well or better than your current playing cue.
