May I ask a question . . . I think I remember Johnny and Earl giving pool clinics and stuff, but I don't hear about it anymore. Buddy Hall came to our pool hall and he is a legend in his own right, and I did learn a ton from him, but he is a not entirely motivated to help others like Robin is doing these days. Sure, she's a sellin machine and who can blame her, she's havin so much fun . . but I can feel that it's about much more than just making a buck, it's about doing your part to be involved in the things you love. Where are the guys in all this?
Jeanette Lee came in last night and gave a show called the 'Black Widow Tour'. During her opening speeches, she didn't toot her horn one bit. She actually talked about her faults and her problems & struggles and how she overcomes them everyday. She totally moved the entire audience because she touched them on a personal level, speaking about life, her kids, their lives, and just letting it be ok to live as a 'normal human being'. The pool was nothing we in Tulsa ain't seen before, but everyone enjoyed an evening they'll keep in their hearts for the rest of their lives. I didn't really pay attention to every last detail of the show, but I know where her heart is because she went out of her way to travel to Tulsa, make sure everyone was well taken care of with compliments, smiles, encouragement, and even sat till the very end and gave autographs to anyone who wanted one. If I had my way, I would have taken the mic away from the commentator to give a heartfelt speech about what she's doing. I told some of the guys that I respected her for giving that kind of a talk and they could only say, 'well, she's only here because the APA is payin' her'. This is why people go nowhere, and especially why pool literally died in our town. It's because all the pool players went to the casinos, and I feel like I'm the only one who is trying to do anything to help the sport grow.
My point is, I saw Jeanette last night, and I had the pleasure of hearing Robin speak during the SVB vs. Busti Hardtimes match on youtube and I was blown away by the passion in her voice. She's excited about everything. Her 3 grown boys are super successful, she's gettin to watch pool on her 'kitchen pass' from her husband, and getting to sit next to Jay Helfert in the best seat. and great DVD's!
If there are any dudes out there spending their extra time 'growing the sport', I haven't seen much of it, except for Jay and Jerry and guys like Justin from TAR, but I'm talking about the big players... SVB is known as the only American male to travel the world according to Jay and his play alone is enough to inspire and attract but I'd like to become aware of more people who step up to the plate like these two ladies here...
I hope this doesn't derail the thread, and I hope you continue to sell lots of DVD's. As someone said earlier, Jerry's gift is teaching and stimulates you to see the right path which is rare. People like this who journey passionately through life make it all worthwhile for not only their own life, but everyone else's they encounter because they have realized their own true potential.
You Nailed it!
When I loved shooting pool, I did it with all my heart!
What I still love, is the "pool players" all of them!...I really love teaching a player who has no clue how to jump "when they say "I've never jumped before" (my favorite line) I give myself a 2 minute clock. And in Vegas...its instant satisfaction! Especially when they come back to my booth and let me know they used the shot and it worked for them in their match...their excitement is awesome I LOVE IT!!!
I also LOVE to sell.... but "I HAVE TO" love the product!
So my excitement comes when I know pool players will enjoy and learn from whatever I sell.
As long as this part of my life stays fun...I will continue to be involved.
The Stream is a blast too, I LOVE to chat with everyone. So being able to commentate with the streamers which is my passion showed. So thank you for mentioning me and speaking of what you saw. You are dead on...I LOVE what I do...everything about it.
