i have the opportunity to buy a diamond 9 foot with 3 5/8 inch pockets. yes its extreme tight. do u think it will help me get better or no? tks

No...and to top it off, none of your friends will want to play on your table. Not even pros play on tables that tight. If the table is a good price, you could pay someone to make the pockets right.

i look at practice on a table with tight pockets this way. just like snooker. if you can get good at hitting those shots with those pockets, then, when you go to say your local bar to play in a league you will be shooting at 5 gallon buckets lol. tight pockets can help you slow down and really be precise with your shots.

Russian Pyramid the corner pockets are 5mm wider than the ball. Side pockets are 18mm wider.

Its a weird game the balls are huge the table is 6 x 12 and you can use any ball as the cue ball. And you can get points for scratching off a ball. On the break they usually do a kind of very bad straight pool break but they try to follow the cue into the corner pocket. There are videos of it on youtube

I think it would be a wash; just my opinion, it would help you in some ways and hurt you in others.

Totally agree.

I try to shoot 400 balls a day but every few months I throw on pocket reducers hoping that they will make me unstoppable. After a week some aspects of my ball pocketing are allot better. But over all my ability to run out seems to decrease because I am so concerned about making the shot I tend to play cruder position. And I am so tense about all the balls I am missing that I get a little stiff.

I used to have an 8 foot practice table with nearly six inch pockets. I told my instructor I wanted to get them tightened up and he told me not to even think of that. The looser the pockets, the more balls you make. The more balls you make, the more you want to play. The more you play, the better and more confident you get.
This is too true. I now have a 9 foot GC with 3 7/8" pockets and I know what he was preaching. Some days I head downstairs after work to get my usual hour or so of practice and I can't seem to run three balls. After about two minutes of that crap I get pissed, throw the cover back on, and go do something else. I used to clobber the 9ball ghost but am now scared to even try it!
Practice tables should increase your confidence, not beat it out of you. Do yourself a favor and get one with at least 4 1/8" pockets.

Tight pockets are ok- but not too tight. It can really can destroy your feeling of enjoying the game :)

To just practice very hard on some drills it might be ok. but not to use it as a daily table. You will go to play often also *wrong* patterns on such a too tight table because you re scared.

Get a normal table, and be lucky :-)
