Tiger Shaft Question

I have two Tiger shafts. Both shafts have the Tiger X ULTRA® High Performance Shaft Emblem as seen below (picture from their website), but the two shafts I have are NOT the same type of shaft:

Now, according to Tiger, the X Ultra shaft has a 1/2" ferrule, while the LD & Pro-X have 1/4" ferrules. According to Tiger, both the X Ultra and the LD have a 15" pro taper - 12.75mm, while the Pro-X has a gradual taper - 11.75 (as seen below):

Well...here's my question. One of my Tiger shafts is definitely a Tiger X Ultra shaft...but the other one has very peculiar specifications. Could it be a special order...or am I missing something here? (I don't remember where I picked it up - it wasn't direct from Tiger.)

The "oddity" has the emblem of the X Ultra...it has a shaft diameter of an X Ultra or LD (12.75mm)...it has a 1/4" ferrule like the LD and/or the Pro-X...but it has the definite gradual taper of the Pro-X rather than a pro taper...

I've been trying to figure this one out, but I'm thrown for a loop!

Maybe it was modded after the fact ?

It could have been shaved down to whomevers specifications that originally got it. Thats a regular occurence.

a guy i know has an andy gilbert. he f'd up the top part of his ferrule putting a tip on (got a lathe and now knows way more than i do so i can't tell him anything) anyway his idea was to shave the ferrule down past the crack he put in it. i told him not to but he insists it's not a big deal and nobody will care if he tries to sell it.

hey he has a lathe so what do i know

That can't be the case...the questionable shaft is 12.75mm with a gradual taper...the Pro-X with the gradual taper is already down to 11.75mm.

This definitely isn't a "chop-job"...

Perhaps this was a partial and the cm used a different taper. Tiger website says the sticker is included and needed for any warranty, so I think the finish hasn't been applied. Also, the beginning taper may be wider so the cm can make it flush with their specs. Ask this in the ask the cm forum section and I'm sure sure you will get the answer your don't looking for quickly.

That's what I thought at first as well...but the partials for the Pro-X are already tapered down to 11.75mm at the tip when sent out...so it can't even be a partial Pro-X...and it can't be a partial for the others, as they come with the pro-taper...

Basically this has all the properties of the Pro-X (taper/ferrule length), but it has a 12.75mm diameter...and it has an Ultra-X sticker on it...but it doesn't seem to fit the criteria for any of them...

The Pro-X does not have a pro taper and has the smaller tip diameter.


It is conical taper which really does work too good with a closed bridge hand. :frown:
