I am unsure about the correct reference to apply to my cues that have 3/8-10 pins. One is a McDermott and the other a Spitz. The profile of the thread differs. The Spitz shaft screws a few turns on the McDermott and then began to seize so I recognize they're incompatible. In the future I would like to buy extra shafts that have the correct thread. What is the difference ?

You should check with Spitz to be sure, but I think he uses the 3/8-10 modified (flat bottom diameter) pin. The traditional 3/8-10 can be re-tapped to fit the modified.

Beau, Your correct my pin is a flat bottom dia in which the barrel is used for locating on the shaft . The Mcdermott has an standard V- thread. The V- thread can be re-tapped to fit, but the fit may be a bit sloppy.

I use some flat minor pins and a v groove tap and I haven't had any issues with the shaft not fitting. Sometimes its kind of snug, but after a few times together and apart, its not too bad at all. Maybe I'm just lucky.
