I know what you mean but I also carry a gun most of the time and I may be prompted to shoot back if I have to. You should never use any weapon as a threat be it a knife, gun or butt of a pool cue. If you pull a weapon then be prepared to use it and it should only be last resort. Not withstanding "Stand your ground", I have no problem running like hell to get out of a bad situation with the confidence I know I can defend myself if I have to. I prefer that to being defenseless. But this is not pool related (Other then the pool cue comment) so I will end this thread here.

It depends on many factors. Most gun fights happen within 11 feet and a holstered gun wielder is at a disadvantage against a drawn knife wielder within 10 feet.

Police are actually taught NOT to try and draw their gun against a knife wielder within ten feet if he is coming at them.

I wish they wouldn't train cops this way.There was a native american carving a piece of wood downtown Seattle and a cop shot him when he wouldn't drop the knife.The man was killed and something was said about him being within 21' of the cop.

I carried a pocket knife until I was about 23,but I had long hair and looked tough and had cops freak out about the pocket knife.One time while getting a speeding ticket I was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon,the charges were dropped of course.
 
Bad move...

Reminded me of the Manhattan pool hustler back in the day broke and needing a
fix decided to mug a businessman on a side street with a knife. Turned bad for him cause the man was a detective walking home and he got blown away with a 38. Can't recall his name though.:eek:
