Reality check - McDermott I shafts

Right after I joined here I bought a D10. Shortly after that I bought an I2. It had a rattle and a curve. It was replaced with another I2 with a curve. Mc D told me to send the shaft in with my D10 and the would match the shaft to my D10 as well as match the ring on the shaft. I asked for an upgrade to an I3.

It came back looking beautiful, but it still is not dead straight. When you roll the shaft on the table the center of the shaft will move up and down about a 1/16+ .

I have read of others with LD shafts from other shaft makers paying $200.00+ and not getting a dead straight shaft.

What are acceptable tolerances. Is it being unrealistic to expect shafts to be dead straight?

Thanks

And there is lots more where that came from.

Sore subject and many of the same questions I guess. The majic word that I was not aware of is "taper roll" I did not search that.

Sorry to bother you.

It's no bother. We post here to help one another and to offer suggestions in an effort to be of some assistance.

its kinda funny, alot of shafts are not straight and to go along with that alot of butts are not straight either. what is acceptable? anything that doesnt bother you enough to throw your game off.

There are dead straight shafts and you shouldn't except anything that
isn't.Its called Quality control and is up to the company to fix the issue
not the consumer to swallow his pride and learn to except it.If everybody
just learns to live with it,is why we have so many issues when it comes to
a quality product.

Would be more than happy to supply you with a straight LD shaft for your McD.

update

I thought I would fill you guys in. I gave Bob an order for one of his shafts shortly after I started this post .

I may have it the end of next week. I'm excited.

I've got a McD and an I shaft and the only complaint I have is that the diameters are noticeable different. I am sure if I sent the butt in they would of matched it up ... but I am still shocked at how different the diameters were. It would seem to me that it would be easier if they made the joints/collars all close to the same diameter. I know in the few cues I have made I don't vary more than .005 (tops!) in all my joint/collar diameters .. but maybe I am just lazy and find it easier to grab a shaft from what I have available. :)
