ferrule-less shafts

Ferrule-less shafts, what are the draw backs?

In my opinon there are none so long as the shaft is properly built to with stand the inpact of the tip hitting the cue ball. I generally machine a piece of phenolic that will go down the center of the shaft 3/4 of an inch that is 5/16 in diameter with a flat surface 2/16 thick that the tip is attached too.

I have found that if you do not use some type of pad between the tip and the shafts end grain the force of impact can cause the shaft to crack.

Hope this helps

I play at a pretty good speed of pool and tryed most of the super
shafts and the drawback I found with the ferruleless shaft was actually
the drawback.Potting was fine but a long draw shot I found very difficult
with the ferrule-less shaft and I usually have no issues with that shot.
Besides that it hit very solid and deflected a little less than a standard maple shaft but no where near a Predator.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I have a shaft thats' ferrule has been given me trouble (ei. chipped, etc..) so i was thinking about switching the ferrule until I started to think about the ferrule less shafts.

Would it feasible to make replace the ferrule part with another wood.
