best player with a cue now and last 50 years

American viewpoint.

Efren gets my vote

Many of the posters seem to forget that there is pool outside the US.
For that reason, picking the best right now is a waste of time. The top 50 players in the world all play at pretty much the same level. There are incredible players that no American has even heard of.

Many of the posters didn't notice that the original post was for the past 50 years. Mosconi, Worst and others were at the end of their careers in 1962.

Having said that, I'll go with Efren for the past 50. I just can't pick a single "best" at this moment in history. Way too much talent out there!

hmmm I can't pick 1 so I'll give you a top 5 in no particular order...

Nick Varner
Irving Crane
Steve Mizerak
Mike Sigel
Efren Reyes

That's mostly for pool, Efren was good at 3C, don't know about snooker, where any of the others? Seeing how the OP listed snooker players, he was probably looking for all cue sports. I'd say Efren was best all-around at all games, averaging across all of them.

I couldn't argue with Harold Worst, but I never saw him. Most of the others mentioned I've seen, at least on youtube. I was lucky enough to see many legends at the Rack in Oak Park, Mi back in the hey day...ie: Keith, Red, Bugs, Buddy Hall, Marvin Henderson, Boston Shorty...The list goes on, I've been in the Philippines watching pool too, but I'd have to say Efren in recent decades....Tom

P.S. Not necessarily all around, to include 3C, but Jimmy Reid and Dennis Orcullo are the best for the cash that I've ever seen. Alex ain't no chump either ;)

Hands Down,,,,''ET''

Gotta throw my cash on ''The Knoxville Bear''.......

Guys like Danny James, ''Freddy ''The Beard'' and Jim Rempe would tell stories of Eddie just ''Turning guys Out''...!!

Probably a good argument for all the players mentioned so far.
But for me under pressure and for the cash I have to go with Lassiter.

My vote for best all-around current player:

Alex Pagulayan

My vote for best all-around player in the last fifty years:

Efren Reyes and Harold Worst (I'm picking two, damnit, and as soon as they play to break the tie I'll choose one of them)

Honorable mention for the last fifty years:

Mike Sigel
Nick Varner
Luther Lassiter

Like the title says what do you guys think? my 2 picks are Ronnie O. and Willie M.

Hard to say, but I think it is a toss up between Cocobolocowboy and Acedonkeyace. :D
Well maybe not, but they are my favorite AZ posters.

Best Player Now and Last 50 Years

Now: Efren, Thursten Hohmann, and maybe Strickland.

Last 50 years: Mosconi (past his prime - doesn't matter), Lassiter, "Babe" Cranfield (he's from Syracuse)

Earlier than that: Mosconi, Greenfield, Worst

The OP said within the last 50 years

which would be from 1962-2012, and I think Jeff meant Pool, not Snooker or 3 cushion.

Now, with those parameters who would be the best all around? Mosconi was past his prime, and did not really win anything worth mentioning after 1962. Harold Worst was before 1962, and should not even be in the conversation.

The best all around player in the last 50 years has to be Efren, and 2nd place would have to be Ralf Souquet.

My two.......

Earl The Pearl...when it comes down to it, this guy has an uncanny sense for the game and not to mention I have NEVER seen anyone pocket balls like him...next up is Luther Lassiter..I mean c'mon this guy was so good that he would watch a guy play for an hour and if he missed even one shot he knew he could beat em!? As Earl would say..HOW STRONG IS THAT!? lol

Alternative.... Jersey Red
