Well after years of wishing and dreaming I finally upgraded to a 9 foot Diamond pro cut table. As far as a playing table it's great. There are two thing that I hope to get fixed in the near future. The first is how loud it is when you pocket a ball. That will be an easy fix when we tear it down and line the inside with neoprene. The thing that really bother me is the black spots I'm getting on the balls. From what I've read Diamond is working on some new pocket liners to solve this problem. Does anyone know if these are for sale yet?

It does go away after a while. I know how frustrating it can be getting those black marks out. When cleaning the balls, a dab of rubbing alcohol on a damp cloth will do the trick. You can also use a few leather products out there to clean off the excess polish although I saw no great difference with them. Maybe you'll have better results. After a couple months of play, the spots will just stopped happening.

I played on a friends Diamond and he said he quickly learned to hit everything with pocket speed because he was sick of cleaning the marks off the balls. :) He viewed it as a built in "training feature".

As you could guess, my friend is in the marketing field.

diamond has come out with new pockets. I recently purchased a new set but haven't had the time to install them yet, so I can't give you any reviews.

Black marks

Some of the stick on spots can
cause black marks on balls. It's
easy to check.

Put clean ball on spot. Hit it with
medium speed a few times with the
cue ball from a break position. Don't
pocket the object ball but check
marks.

The marks drove me crazy for a few
months on my GC till I figured out it
was the foot spot causing the marks
when breaking hard. Particularly with a
cut break.

Good luck, hope you find the source soon.

This table is used so these pockets have been on it for years. So I doubt if a couple more months will make any difference.

I bought a set of the new nylon pockets direct from Diamond and they were terrible. The craftsmanship was very poor. I called Brian and he said they would send replacements...they never did. I called back a couple of weeks later and they made some excuse why it wasn't done.

They sent out replacement pockets and they were worse than the first ones. I sent them all back and Brian said he would find excellent ones to send me. At that point, I just wanted my money back. I expected a little more for close to $300.

I think Diamond makes the best tables in the world but in this situation I felt their customer service was very poor. I am just dealing with the pockets I have that are falling apart.

Hopefully you have a better experience than I did.

At the very least, you can line the inside of the pockets at the ball contact points with black duct tape, looks natural, and no more marks;) but yes, Diamond has worked out the problem on the new pockets as far as I'm aware:grin:

That sucks. How long ago was this? I just got a email from them saying that the new pockets were done. But now it's just a matter of catching up with the orders. I hope there different than the ones you got.

I purchased a brand new Pro-Am in early 2010. The table gets played on at least 15 hours a week. Trust me when I tell you that the black marks on the balls don't go away. I love the table, but the black marks are pretty dang annoying...

Hey Glenn. I have the old pockets. (circa 2010) Is duct tape my only alternative to this problem?

Wish I would have known...I took delivery of a new Pro-Am in July/2012...You would think they would have mentioned it when I ordered my table. I love the table but the black marks constantly are really annoying.

RKC- What do you recommend? If I want the upgraded pockets...is it going to be the standard...retail+Tax?

I have an older, updated Diamond Pro,and was having the same problem with those black marks on a set of Super Aramith Pro balls. I would hand clean, and polish them, only to have more marks an hour of play later.
A couple of months ago, I replaced them with the new Aramith Tournament (Duramith) balls, and haven't seen a mark since. Chalk, and dirt, don't seem to be as much a problem either. Not that you should have to replace your balls, but they might be cheaper than the new pockets.
I have thought about 1/8" thick self stick neoprene behind the leather liner, to soften the loud whack.

Diamond, in my opinion, makes the best pool table in the world. It's made in the U.S.A, which is an added bonus, for me, at least. Their customer service is abysmal. I'm not sure why they apparently don't care about their customers, maybe they don't feel they need to...

Diamond is going to trickle out the new pockets first, for feedback before they ever jump on a new product for a complete turn over, I know I would at first, vendor supply is another consideration as I have not spoken to them about this pocket change yet;)

Black carpete from home depot works well, placed behind the pockets:grin:

No, but it's a free alternative, i'll post some pictures of how it looks when i'm finished working on this Diamond ProAm 8ft:smile:

Thanks Glenn. I'm sure the black duct tape is the answer. My question is why do I have to use duct tape to solve this annoying problem? Why can't Diamond offer a better solution? Duct tape! Really?

Black Marks

I have had my Diamond Pro 9ft table for 6 years - have had 6 years of black marks on my Brunswick Centennial balls. I too recently acquired a set of Aramith Tournament balls(duramith). VOILA - no more black marks. I assume it must be related to the Duramith technology. Whatever the difference is - I like the results.
