Aiming well takes time.

When I first started to observe pro players shoot, I noticed that they took more time to study and aim before shooting than I did or would.

My benchmark for aiming continues to be professional snooker players. As a group, they seem to be remarkably uniform in their pre-shot routine and their timing (as it relates to aiming). They don't appear to take a lot of time to aim, even for the more extreme cuts.

It's going to be at least another six months for me! Is that enough time?
More Lasik surgery coming. :embarrassed2:
Both eyes.
At least it could explain what the heck is going on with me lately ?
I just have to grin and bear it!

Shaky,

Good luck with the Lasiks. I have not yet made the leap for my astigmatism but I probably should. Why the 6 months? I thought it was an almost immediate remedy.

Best Wishes,
Rick

Rick, have they talked to you about lens implants? At your age you probably already have a cataract developing, so there's a chance you'll need that taken care of anyway. I was blind in my right eye due to a traumatic cataract after a shop accident. The day after my surgery I was out on the trout stream fishing, seeing in 3-D again.

Thanks. I do need to go back to the Eye Doc. My astigmatism developed after a small piece of a golf shaft struck it while cutting it on an arm saw. That was about 20 yrs. ago & that's how long it's been since I've been to an Eye Doc. I keep saying I'm going to go but I just have not done it yet. I hope the cataract thing is a ways off, but I do need to go to the Doc.

Thanks again,
Rick

Yes ! about 40 years !!!! lol

They did it once about 5 months ago. Didn't go real well. Now they won't redo it untill around April.
I think it has to fully heal up before they can do try it again. I'm starting to get a lazy left eye because it's so bad in that one. It doesn't work too well for pool these days.

Sorry to hear that. I sure hope it goes better for you this time.

With all of these peception problems, no wonder it takes time to aim well.

Thanks Rick! I hope it gets better to too! I knew it wasn't just me getting old. I knew something was wrong. I knew I could still stroke a ball!
I know I can still play. Something was just off, I just didn't know what, and I didn't know how to fix it.
It just really explains a lot.
Maybe come April things will start to turn around? I hope!
Now I don't know weather to keep shooting badly. and at least try to keep in stroke, or just stop and take a break?
I keep trying to shoot myself out of it, but it keeps getting worse. It's not good either way.

Right now, 4's are kicking my a** without a spot on a 9 footer. Badly!
It's not a lot of fun. :embarrassed2:

Frank,

When my game goes off I never take time off. I always play through it & my game comes back fairly quickly, but it sounds like you have a problem that one can not just simply play through. Maybe you should put it on hold & then come back with a vengeance.

Rick

I try to fight my way through it, but my brain is turning into jello!
This has been going on for a couple of years!
It started when I had to get "progressive" lenses.
It was all downhill from there. lol:)
I try to keep smiling!
The Eye Doctor swears that the next operation, my eyes will be perfect!
We will see. I'm not holding my breath. :grin-square:

Mr. Frank,

FWIW. I got prescription glasses for my astigmatism some 20 yrs. ago & never could play with them. I tried but never could. So... I play in the blurr. I play better than I do with the glasses. I now say I'm playing by memory intead of feel.
I play very well but that occasional mis that pops up out of nowhere can be a killer. I guess I'm getting pool dimentia now.

I know your situation is much worse than mine but that blurr of mine also makes me 'focus' more because I have to be more precise.

Just a thought. I feel that the glasses upsets my depth perception & I can actually feel & sense the shot better without them. Also when a shot is really tight, I close my good non shooting eye to get a better 'idea' of the exact line & contact point. I open the 'good' eye before I shoot. It seems to work fairly well but not always.

Again, Good Luck,
Rick

PS Maybe you should take a short break & come back relying more on your instincts than anything technical. Just a thought. It worked for me in golf.

Sorry for the hijack! It seems i'm pretty good at that.
I probably should take a break at least on the big tables for a while.
Aiming well sure does take time!

Age takes its toll. When I had to go to progressives it really created a big bump. The adjustment was tortuous. I was finally beginning to make the adjustment when I hit a plateau that I just couldn't seem to get past. I went in to the DMV to renew my license and aced the written test and then went to the eye exam area. They had me cover my right eye and read a line on the chart. No problem. Then I had to cover my left eye, and I was now using my dominant eye, and damned if everything wasn't a blur. A generous employee let me try it again and after having snuck a glance at the chart I was able pass the test. I had no idea I had such a problem and am now hoping that a new corrective right lens will help me get over the plateau. My opthamalogist says at my age I am not a good candidate for lasik surgery. Funny the things that happen to our bodies without us knowing. 8 yrs ago I grew a tumor the size of a volleyball that weighed 4lbs 2 oz and I didn't have a clue that it was growing between my right kidney and my liver without entwining around anything!

well, its all a matter of practice, once you have seen the same shot many times, you got this every time, until pressure hits. However, I always pretty much do the same thing whether easy shot or not. I line the OB to the pocket, then I line the CB to the Ob and take a deep breath get in my stance, and position to hit the CB, I then stroke 3 times, and keep my position secure, I hit it. If I find a mistake in my stance, or position I start over that process lol my friend wonder why I take like a half minute per shot
