Found This Old Bar Cue... anything special?

I found this old butt of a bar cue in my dads shop when I cleaned it out. He apparently cut it in two at one point and was using it for some sort of handle.

I think there is enough to make a cue though... is it junk? not junk?

Looks like half of the bar cues in my regular hangout. The other half are about as old, just a lighter color. If you need another one, two.. twelve.. just let me know! :grin:

The points and weight stamp make me think that is an old Katz brand house cue, I think they were out of Brooklyn NY. Went out of business in the early 70s I believe?

Nice old cues, I've converted several of those to sneakies.

first

let's sand a spot near the butt and the end of the butt so we can see the grain and try to find what wood is in the butt. i convert a lot of these and you atre amzaed at what you might find under all that dirt and grime. as with many old bar sticks the butt is going to have a oversize diameter butt and will need to be recut.
if the cue is near straight and is at least .85 - .87 diameter at 29 inches from the butt it can be converted, but most of the time you will need to replace the shaft as most are too small.
i had a guy send me an old crappy looking titlist to see if we could save it for conversion, we were both shocked after the first recut the wood was a beautiful curly purpleheart.
