Equipment temperature

At what temp do you feel it is no longer advisable to play with an ivory ferrule, or elk ferrule and joint?

We have a local pool hall in our sanctioned ACS league. They didn’t pay their gas bill and their heat got shut off. They still expect teams to play matches there regardless. To make matters worse, no liquor license either.

I'm not sure I can contribute to a beneficial answer but try stacking a pile of firewood under one of the tables and roll in a cooler filled with your choice od adult beverages. Maybe this would get their attention?

It isn't the temp that causes problems or failure in ferrules or the shaft. It is the change in temp that does it...ie; how quickly it goes from warm to cold or cold to warm...

So if I keep my cue in my beer cooler on the way over I should be fine.

If you keep your cue in a case and do not leave it in your vehicle, you should be ok. If, by chance, you forget it in your car overnight, leave it in the case and take it inside. The case will slow down the temp change.

Just my .02 I had an ivory ferrule crack on me while playing with it, it was in an air conditioned room all day and all I did was walk about 75 feet, put the cue together hit a few balls and then I hear a loud pop, looking at my ferrule I found a crack running the length with the grain.

Absolutely. There are times when ferrules just, flat out, fail. No rhyme or reason.

(Actually, there is a reason but impossible to pinpoint after-the-fact)
