3/8x10 vs 3/8 QR for shafts

I was wondering if the thread pitch on the 3/8 quick release is a 10 or something else, and if its possible to use a 3/8x10 shaft with a 3/8 quick release butt even if it requires drilling out a longer pilot hole in the shaft.

Which 3/8 QR ?
Btw, why is there a need for QR for regular shafts ?

on the first part, that is a good question, there are too many of the damn things

for the second though, its because I'm broke. I'd like more of a "looker" cue. I've got a McDermott G208

and beyond the g-core shaft it came with, I've picked up a used 314/2 and had a factory second McDermott plain maple shaft turned down to 10.75mm. So i'd rather not get a different pin cue as a "looker" and not be able to use the same shafts.

Particuarly i'm looking at some of the inexpensive heavy on inlays phillipino cues. Yes, i'd far rather have $1000 to spend on a cue (man that one blue butterfly from BHQ would have probably won the choice) but its not realistic with my wife having lost her job and her prior job was who we had relatively inexpensive but good full family healthcare through. So not only is income clipped, but expenses are going way up (in the range of $1000 a month more for insurance through my employer than hers). It doesn't look like she'll get another job soon as she instead has started taking college classes to get her bachelors. So a high end looker cue is out of the picture for at least a couple years. But I could swing spending $100-200 on a sharp cue from the phillipines. The thing is that most of them use 5/16x14 or 18, and a few use a 3/8 QR. From looking closer at the pictures now, it looks like the one uses a 3/8 QR that is piloted and the threads on the pin are below the wood of the butt, so that wouldn't work at all.

The pitch of the McD QR pin is 3/8x16.
The 3/8x10 is just that; 10 TPI.
They're not interchangeable.
You can have a 3/8x16 QR insert installed on your 10 thread shaft.
Conversely, you can have the QR converted to a 10.
Neither operation is going to break the bank.

Joey,
Just wondering where you're going with this question:

"Btw, why is there a need for QR for regular shafts ?"

Whether a shaft is LD or 'regular' has nothing to do with QR.
Just wondering.

Is a 5/16x14 (or 18) inside diameter / 3/8x10 outside diameter insert simpler? And or potentially removable later?

You can install a 14 or 18 insert in the 3/8x10 hole.
Almost anything is reversible.

I meant quick release for playing shafts.
I can understand it's use for breaker or jumper, but I have no clue why they exist anymore for playing shafts.
Are people that lazy to spin the shaft 4-6 times more ?

Thanx for the clarification, now I understand what you were asking.
In answer to that question, yes, I'm afraid they are.
That's the only reason (that I can think of) that the 18 thd. isn't used more often.
It's not 'trick' enough.
