What should I use to shape a Kamui tip?

Kamui tips should be shaved by a eunuch in a pure silk robe woven by virgins by the light of the 7th full moon on the 7th month on the 7th day. The tool shall be a shaped unicorn horn heat treated at Mt Olympus by Zeus. If you think that's a bit much, you should see the chalk making process....

It's a real pain in the you know where to actually shape a tip with a Willard tool. They're intended to be used to maintain the tips shape.
Have your friendly neighborhood cue repair person cut the initial shape for you, be it nickle or dime, or seven and and a half cents. From that point on, use the Willard.
Better not to use a pick on a layered tip, also.

That is no problem.

I'm Dionisios by birth. My father was Zeus.

Sure I came out of his thigh, but no big deal. I'll just hit ol' dad up.

Now after reading this stuff I kind of want to take it to our local guy anyways and have him take the tip down a little. It's pretty much the height before cutting, other than a bit for shape. Might have him take the tip down a few layers and re-shape it.

The best tool for shaping a Kamui, or any other tip, is the traditional el cheap piece of plastic that holds a a strip of sandpaper. Use a downward stroke, never upwards, or you'll delaminate the tip.

I know they have their gator thing for scuffing but can I actually use it shape the tip as well or?

I know a lot of people say using a regular shaper will actually damage my tip and I don't want to do that obviously...

But is getting a little more flat from playing so often so I kind of want to reshape it.

Kamui wants you to use the gator grip. Well it costs $35. Does it do a good job........ you bet.

If you have ever used one, you would see that it takes off a very slight amount of tip. That is because the Kamui tip doesn't need to be scuffed ever time you shoot pool. The tip holds chalk very well. So if you need to scuff it, use some fine sand paper like 400 grit and do it lightly and all over the tip.

Of course the the original shaping should be done on a lathe by some one that knows what they are doing.

I'm not sure which is a more ridiculous statement on the Kamui Gator Grip web page. The one that says "Using anything other than the Gator Grip will damage the tip" or the one that says "The quarter (to show relative size) in the picture is not included with purchase"

I wonder how many people paid $35 for the Gator Grip and then called up to complain about the fact that they didn't get the quarter in the picture?

Quick! Edit the website, we are losing 25 cents every Gator Grip sale. Nah, nevermind, let's just start selling $30 chalk!
