Mosconi Cup Musings

That would be an acceptable excuse, but we haven't seen the back of that jacket yet. If it has any kind of "The Game is the Teacher" or CJ advertisement on the back of it (instead of Mosconi Cup or Team USA), that excuse would be blown out of the water big-time.

-Sean

It doesn't have anything on the back.

I've been to Britain a few times, Lou.
Room temperature there is a lot colder than this continent.
That's why many Brits drink their beer at room temperature..it's cold.

A jacket with the team colors would have been wise.

Yes, I've been to London in the winter too. But I see a lot of guys in the stands without jackets on. If you're on the team -- certainly if you're the captain of the team -- you don't cover up the team shirt and I don't care how cold it is.

CJ said it is super cold there, so let's not jump on him too much. As someone who hates being cold, I can relate.

Sure we'd all like to see the team colors but if you're freezing your ass off, I understand, and it doesnt effect the outcome or the job he is there to do.

I'm just saying it looks bad. If he'd rather be comfortable for a few hours and have himself on tape, for all of prosperity, covering up the team colors, that's up to him. Being the captain is about being the figurehead for your team.

Lou Figueroa

I don't blame CJ for wearing the ****ing jacket. Part of the uniform set should be at least a golf style wind breaker with the team colors.

A couple or three random observations:

If any one of you has not had at least one passing fantasy involving Michaela, her white gloves, and Scottish lilt... you are not human.<--I am so human, I never even noticed the gloves !

It appears that Captain Wiley is wearing a jacket covering his team shirt. I don’t care how cold it might be there -- for a team captain to be doing that looks bad.<--Now who would give a big rats ass about CJ's attire, when Michaela is in the building ?

I don’t in any way fault the play of Dechaine or Shuff -- they are playing marvelously. The problem is that under the glare of the MC lights, anything less than absolute perfection is all too easy to take to task...That is unfair. <--UNFAIR, unfair you say ? How about a 15 year old Gabby Douglass, who went to the Olympic's, (also in London) and brought home the Gold for the USA ? Did they turn down the lights for her ? Was it easier for her to focus ? She was being interviewed, or photographed, every second.......Compared to her, our 'young guy's' are SEASONED PRO'S...They just need to grow some COD'S...

Lou Figueroa

PS..Jes' kiddin' with ya Lou...About everything but Michaela..:love2:...(and Wiley's jacket, and the "young guy's") Maybe some Cheerleader's woulda helped them out ?

I can't argue with you Dick... Maybe we need to trot out the Dallas Cheerleaders next MC :-)

When I was watching the European captain was not wearing a jacket. In any case, I don't care about him -- I don't like seeing *our guy* covering up his team colors. It almost looks like he doesn't want anyone in the crowd to know he's with the band or maybe he just wants to be ready for a quick getaway. I'm not saying that's what's actually going on, just that it looks bad.

Lou Figueroa

Seeing a coach or team captain wear a jacket in any other sport, especially when they're not playing, is pretty common.

It only "looks bad" to you because... ?

CJ wasn't looking for a getaway or a place to hide, hahaha. Maybe someone can elaborate on whatever dress code our team captain is supposed to abide by.

Pool is such a backwater sport Im not sure comparisons to other sports is appropriate.

So let me just say that in comparison to the European coach who, whenever on camera was in the came colors as the team he was coaching, CJ's attire made him look like he was just passing through.

Four day nail biter

I gotta say: An AMAZING four days of high-octane pool, brilliantly produced by Match Room and streamed in high-def without a hitch (at least on my end) on ESPN3!

Both teams played hard!!!

Day 3 was surely the turning point as Team USA descended into pool hell. I had to pick up my jaw from the floor after seeing Appleton deny SVB 5-0.

Team USA started day 4 with good momentum but that Van Den Berg vs. Dechaine match was hard to watch for America... :frown:

Archer was the team's foundation. He was in full beast mode in today's match against Feijen. SVB played flawlessly in his rematch against Appleton, 5-1. Even Shuff performed well in the last day, but Melling showed absolutely no fear in his play and finished Shuff 5-2.

Team Europe really wowed with their kicks and jumps... It's like they went to the Philippines for a one week bootcamp or something before Mosconi Cup. Also noticed that the European players were more methodical in their PSR: they walked around the table more, their strokes seemed more consistent, their position play more precise, their safeties more lethal.

In a few matches I noticed players like Hatch and Dechaine not really walking around the table. Maybe they were searching for their rhythm or they were nervous or something, but it was noticeable to me while watching the stream.

I think in the long run American players need to gain more experience playing pros from Asia and Europe. Archer, Varner, Hall, etc. had years of experience defending against the Filipino Invasion, and that's made them so much better. I know that big international tourneys in Americas are hard to come by these days, and it's financially difficult for American pros to travel overseas for tourneys, but watching this Mosconi Cup you can tell there are differences in style and execution between the teams.

Anyway, just my musings... I eagerly await Mosconi Cup 2013!

If....

Again ignorance at its best....
If USA would've won:
- The jacket would've been cool
- The young guns, tremendous players
- Michaela would've been old and ugly....
COMOOOONNNN"!!! GROW UUUUP!

You should thank God JA was in this team!! Period.

On paper we had (USA) two of the best three players in the competition, however, the level of play was in the EURO's favor once JA and SVB were chaired

MELLING is a BEAST with ballz of steel. Using the 5B to get position was mind boggling in conception and execution. SHUFF's fate was sealed. The kick he made on the 6B was 99.9% luck and if asked i'm sure he would allow that he would have been satisfied contacting it (in view of the CB proximity to the rail) let alone making it.

MD's first rack was a harbinger of things to come. His layout was cosmo if he doesn't get straight in on the seven which is exactly what the pool gods laid on his young butt. Those that have played a lil know what i'm talkin about. He got about as good as he could on the 8 which he missed because of a lack of lubrication. Instead of being a confidence booster those events sapped his strength akin to SAMSON getting his locks shorn.

BBBut, it wasn't over. Nick starting doing his imitation of ATLAS with the weight of the world on his shoulders and tried to let MD back in, but, it was not to be, this time.

Wonderfull, entertaining competion and i can't help but wonder if EARL would have made a differance.

Next year can't come soon enough...

Thats just wrong to talk about a mans wife like that. Her beauty is there for all to enjoy, but she deserves to be respected. No, I don't know her. No, I havent had lustful thoughts about her. Yes, I do enjoy seeing her. She is a beautiful lady in my old eyes.

Seems to be a trend on AZ to be disrespectful toward the ladies and then folks wonder why they don't join in.

My $.02.

My 2 cents is you're way too PC, PC.

I suppose you are fine with folks talkin about your mother that way or other female members of your family.

BTW, the pc in my handle does not equate to politically correct. Good punch tho.
