Onyx tip

Worst tip I ever tried. I had one put on a standard maple shaft and also tried the Tiger X-Ultra LD. Lots of miscues, more so than any other tip. Contacting Tiger was no help. I've switched to a Kamui Black SS and miscues are gone. Onyx is a substandard tip. Triangle, LePro etc. all perform better.

I have never had an issue with glazing with any other tip than these new black - style tips.

I don't know if it really matters who the maker is.
Seems that all of them do this.
My guess is that it must have something to with the special tanning they go through.

I guess I will look for something esle.

I have tried every layred tip out there, but none of them compare to pooldawg8's milk dud tips. Try some there only $3 a tip.

On the range of firmness....are they considered a fairly hard playing tip?

The one thing about the Onyx is that it feels pretty "mediumish". Nothing wrong with that.

I've honestly never played with a harder playing tip than that, but for some reason my gut is telling me that I should try something a smidge harder.

all tips glaze in my opinion.

you are just going to have to try different tips out.

Go to the cuemaker/cue supplies forums here and look for posts from TomHay. Great tips and a great guy to deal with. He also has a website but I believe he gives deals on his tips to fellow AZB'ers.

Milk duds are a tad harder than the onyx tips. They feel like hard tip but grab like a soft tip. Also they dont mushroom and keep there shape.

My experience with allot of the Tiger tips and allot of others - is that the feel great for the first week but then they hard up and the second week they just hit really hard, and don't hold chalk as well, and glaze over. I find that I have to use a tip ***** on it after to get it to grab chalk again.

The only one that I don't mind from Tiger is the Everest, for some reason this tip tend to stay pretty consistent.

But Stick with the Kamui - a more consistent tip, and it doesn't change that must over the initial break in period.

I have some Ultraskin on order, can't wait to see what the fuss is all about.
