Anybody remembers Gene Nagy

I remember Gene, one of the best Straight Pool players of all time. He taught Jeanette how to play in NYC.

Is there anyone out who remembers Gene Nagy, great player from the past with nice, smooth stroke??????

I never met the man but talked to him on the phone for several hours about life, love, friends, past/present/future, George Balabushka, breaking cue sticks. Cherished memories.

I wish I hand known ahead of time how much about him we would end up talking about. I would have recorded those conversations.

I remember him and met him once. If I remember right, there is an entire chapter devoted to Gene in "Hustlers and Heroes, Legends and Lies, and the Higher Truth on the Green Felt" by John Grissim. Great book and, if I remember right, you can find a decent copy of this out of print book if you look hard enough.

Yes, the chapter is the banter between Gene and Jack Breit (Jersey Red, the Rooster, the Red Raider) in a one pocket set. Great stuff. Great read.

Freddie <~~~ thinks this book is one of the top three books on pool

Yes,it is.That book is one of my all time favorites.I collect pool related stuffs. So,I have about 140 pool books, but this one is special for sure.It is like enter in the past,in good old times. There are many good shots ilustrated though. And stories as well.
Anyway,I have heard original DVD movie Baltimore Bullet is hard to get in States. It is good movie,I have it,bought it in Netherland. When I was kid I practised some shots from that movie until I made them all. But,wasn't good then, just determined.I didn't understand much back then, but could make all of those shots.Later, after 6 maybe 7 years I started understanding english and everything what is going on the table. Before just played

And this is what they'll be saying about the Derby City Classic in a few decades. That's why for people who can, they should go to the Classic.

Freddie <~~~ itchin' to go

Gene

A friend of mine Bob Watson professional player but not playing in tournaments was very close to Gene as a friend and student. Bob has told me countless stories about Gene and has taught me some things that Gene showed him. I too wish I had known the man. Bob lives in Queens now.
