best way to square up a carbide saw

Hello Kim,

I had the same problem and have found this setup to work very well on my Deluxe Lathe. It is a little costly but makes cuting rings very easy. I use the KJ cutter and the porter cable (Dewalt) router with this mount:

Once everything is squared up it cuts rings like butter and so thin you can almost see through them if you want them that thin.

Are these mounts still available for purchase, I checked the website and didn't have any luck.

The sight I have the link to does not show them on their site anymore. You might be able to call them and get some results. There was a member on here
that also made a mount very similar to the one I pictured but do not remember who it was.

This mount cost about $70 if I remember correctly so it is probably over-kill
but it is very solid and takes only a minute to start cutting rings accurately.

Try one of these guys, they might be able to hook you up with something that will work:

The newer Hightower lathe uses the newer taig carriage. Hightower does not use the cross slide screw in the place shown in the picture. That hole is empty. In order to use this mount, you must purchase a slide and a cross slide screw and dial

squaring router

I just realized this thread is almost a yr old but I'll still offer this method. This video shows a good way to square up your router. My intent in the video was to line up for threading but the method is valid for ANY live tooling operation.

It won't account for inaccuracies in your mandrel/saw blade itself but it will eliminate 99% of any router alignment problems.

You are correct Kim, I set my carriage up diff to make it easier to change operations with multiple cross slide setups, sort of backwards but it works for me. I have the setup that Chris uses when I use the taper bar.

For all that have sent a PM the mount for the porter cable router is no longer
available from K2cnc and the guy that worked for them that made the mount
is no longer working with them.
