How did you become a better player today?

I figured out one thing that will definitely let me have a better chance at getting better every day..... I eliminated one complete waste of time...

I decided this was the last Chris Banks thread I would read and I added him to ignore... I hadn't used that feature before so he'll have the whole place to himself to act a tard in......

Take a look at the other topics on the first few pages and tell me how many have anything to do with actually playing pool!

Review the day. How are you a better player than you were yesterday? Artie used to ask us this.

Even Earl says that he is learning and getting better all the time, I've heard him say it.

I've taken a look at the AZ topics from today, and there is literally nothing that will make you a better player. A pure waste of time.

So take a look at the player you are now, compared with the player you were yesterday. And if you can't say that you've become a better player, you might as well quit now and save yourself the time.

I've taken a look at the ChrisBanks posts from today, and they are literally contributing nothing to this forum. A pure art of trolling.

What you just said here makes no sense.

Would you rather talk about your case all day? I see a hundred threads about cue cases. Let me know when your case helps you make a ball, and then I'll discuss cases with you.

I use my case to funnel the balls back to me when practicing cut shots. So my case definitely helps me to be a better player.

I like the question. I will admit that today was a bad day for me. I did not get to play pool but for an hour. Nothing productive at all. However I did spend a lot of my down time today Reading through AZ billiards threads. I am not sure whether my game has improved but I do feel like I gained something.

I'm glad you see the value of asking this question to yourself. The rest of the people here seem to think it's some sort of joke.

I have noticed that they pick on you a little. This thread would be great way to compare notes with other players. I always looking for new ways to improve. Dont let them get u down.

played 8 hrs today, don't feel any improvements in the whopping 8 hrs i played although i did win my 2nd tournament in a row which i feel terrible about cause i played like shit. Also you have posted this thread in a confronting manner so you deserve the negative responses you have acquired. I would play you a race to 20 and spot you 6 games for 200$ anytime. I live near watertown though, doubt this would ever happen. Remember i don't know your skill level but i have an idea from your attitude, i think you can play but are so frustrated by the game you try to influence other shooters to feel inferior since that is exactly what you are compared to anybody who loves the game for what it is. i haven't commented on may of your posts either but i felt like voicing my opinion this time.

I was trying to inspire people to play better. I bet we will end up playing against each other someday.

Depends on where you look. There are some good questions about playing and there have been good answers to those questions. They are far and few in between but it does happen.

I also agree with this statement. The thing is it doesn't apply to everyone and for some reason everyone thinks it applies to them. It's ok to play for fun, for social interaction. If this is how you enjoy pool , then this statement does not apply to you.

It applys to those that profess to wanting to improve, but see no improvement. They come on here seeking the answers to their improvement when most of the techniques, systems, concepts discussed on here will not help you improve your game, long term.

I'm not surprised one bit by the negative replys, one bit.

And he's right. If you want to improve, you are not improving, get away from thinking that you can find your improvement by just reading AZB, and then putting in a little table time is gonna work.

Hers how you improve......pracitice,practice,practice......oh did I mentioned that you need to practice? It wasn't until I put in over 1080 hours one year that I got to the point where I felt I was really ready to improve by game. Up to that point I was still learning, figuring things out.

After so many hours, what I was doing no longer felt separate from me, but a part of me. When this feeling happens, this is when real improvement happens.

And it has shows. When I do play in the local handicapp tourney, I'm feared now cause few can beat me, why, I practice and they don't. It's that simple folks. This last week I put in over 20 hours. Same with the week before, and the week before that and so on..... Practice.

So, Chris your thread now has some good advice on how to improve. And just wait for my fan club to do show up to discredit me.

I sweat no ones game now that I have my game.....

You didn't mention the arrow duck.No ones going to take you serious.:p

I have been working on my Mother Drills thanks to Scott Lee's lessons. I'm definitely a better player. Not great but better and continuing to improve. I need to learn to play smarter aside from from not missing.
Answering the question... I'm practicing basic drills & stroke mechanics.

This was a great post until you got here...

Anyway, I will answer because I think you asked a good question.

Yesterday I was home sick and since I couldn't practice, I watched a couple Accu-stats DVDs and fell asleep to Jim Rempe's player review of a 14.1 match against Ginky. I like to think some of his brain nectar leaked into my subconscious.

Today, I practiced a shot a miss a lot. I just worked on pocketing the object ball, and not worrying about position. While doing this, I focused on my fundamentals: setting-up a good stance, taking practice strokes, following through and staying down (something I don't do on this particular shot.) Then I tried the same shot with follow. In the end, I decided that I need to practice that shot a lot more and if I face that shot in a game and I need to get position, I will either play safe or pocket the ball and play safe on the next ball.

Questions and answers

I have yet to hear him answer a question he asks everyone else to answer. I play the same as I did yesterday & don't recall asking for anyone's opinion of what I should do for my pool game. Hope everyone is having a great start to the weekend & my condolences to the 2 posters who lost people.......

I was urged to ask questions in grade school. It wasn't expected that I answer my own questions, though sometimes I could with some reflection.

I don't always agree with Chris, but I would never deny him his freedom of speech or his opinion.

I've been playing for 58 years, and while my physical game has suffered, my knowledge continues to expand as I read and watch and contemplate. I also learn every time I give someone a lesson.

If you're satisfied with your own game, good for you.

The reason I said that was because I've been reading his stuff since he joined but rarely commented. He asks some good questions at times but when anyone has ever commented asking him to answer his own question he just talks in circles & never answers. I actually do practice & am trying to get back to where I was many years ago before I took a several years break when my daughter was young. It's good to try to improve at something but he's constantly knocking people that just play for fun. The impression he projects is that he is right about everything he says & don't dare disagree with him; I think he would be more liked here is he dropped that attitude & just interacted with people. Anyway, that's my two cents.
