True Double Elimination

I have always been a fan of the single elimination / multiple set format...

There is no doubt that single elimination is the best format. Unfortunately, one-and-done does not work for pool players. Half the field only plays one player, one match and they are eliminated. Promoters would have a hard time assembling a field of players under these terms.

Just one random weird idea, but what the loser's side player has to spot a game (or two) to the winner's side?

Rather than having to win an entire set, which is a tall row to hoe, he has to overcome a game or two on the wire, and it doesn't lengthen the set dramatically.

I literally logged on just to suggest this very idea.

Another suggestion would be if the guy in the hot seat loses the 1st match...how about a "short set" tie-breaker like a race to 5?

I understand the desire to end a tournament as soon as possible once it gets to the point of the finals but in my honest opinion, I hate to see a tournament end with two players having only one loss. I know that my friends all feel the same. One more match could determine a true winner.

I think it is unprofessional to determine a winner based off of one set and to use the fact that they have won more matches as proof that they have won. This does not work because obviously the winners side has played less matches. There is no proof that they would not have won the same amount of matches had they been given a chance but, because they were winning, they were not given that chance. You are essentially penalizing them for winning. One more match would determine a true winner.

It doesn't matter if everyone has gone home and only the finalist, their friends, and others who have to be there are the only people left in the building watching. A true winner needs to be determined in my opinion by playing that one more match if neccesary. I had some friends who dont play pool over at the house during turning stone. They started watching when Johnny beat Shane and they were really liking what they were seeing. They could not believe that the tournament ended after Shane won the second match though. They were excited to watch the final match but then when they found out it ended they were like WTF, why? I did not have a good answer but to say that's just how they do it. Everyone of us agreed that playing that extra match is something that should be done.
