Runs on Video......

I totally agree on the subject of a video for runs over 70. There should be some exceptions: If the player has a run during a tournament or league match where there are no camera set up. But, they should list what tour. or league match etc. Or if they have a nice run with some witnesses watching, naming the witnesses (AZ members would be great) and where it took place etc. Specially if they have posted videos prior to this new run that are close to the same number.
When a player comes over to the 14.1 Forum from out of no-where and has never written anything on the 14.1 Forum. Stating that they ran over 100 balls and run 100's all the time. It is a slap in the face to the players who have been here on this Forum for years. Knowing how much work they put in to their game to hit that magic number of 100. Not only how much work that they do to improve themselves but all these players devote their time to help other players.

With out a doubt, videos of runs over 70 should be mandatory to make the yearly list.

I'm primarily just a lurker here. I enjoy the posts and especially the posted videos.

Although my vote doesn't really count, I agree with 14.1 man who has certainly put up some great vids himself! :thumbup:

Seeing how my high is 39, and lately can't work my way out of two racks - don't be looking for one from me anytime soon! :grin:

One day, I will build my room for the table and get to practice 14.1 more....

You already know my thoughts on this, and I will offer myself as the first casualty of this new policy -- having my 78 removed because I was not equipped with video at the time. It sucks, but you know something? You have to make sacrifices for the greater good.

I'll make sure to have witnesses available who'll speak up on my behalf if I have a run over 70 to contribute. Better yet, I'll investigate a nice tripod setup for my smartphone, to do some recording.

While some may take this as a "negative" -- that it will "uninspire" (deinspire?) folks from posting, high numbers like these need to have some way of vetting them.

For someone who's never been here, and on his very first day visiting this forum, suddenly comes out of the blue with a 120 -- when video evidence of the person's fundamentals and patten-play are not conducive for a 100-ball runner -- that's unfair to the rest of us who work at our game and take pride in our honesty.

The video proof should only apply to 1st timers that state they have run over 70. Once established on the forum like Sean and Andy no proof is needed in my opinion. I've seen Sean play and he is capable of running a 100 every time he steps to the table.

Thank you, Bill. Actually, I like that "established" idea -- and not because it applies to me, but rather because it indeed is a fair way for others (new members) to get introduced into our group, and once in, feel immediately comfortable, being able to blend in easily.

This is a good idea!

i like the idea...although im new here, cant run ten balls yet so video of my run of 9 would just embarrass me. but i do agree. i always watch bills videos when he posts them and notice that he sets himself up for a great break most of the time. so its nice to be able to see videos of the good shooters. and yes also anyone can just come in and be like i ran 96. i personally think im gtg cause who in their right mind would make up a high run of 9! also it wa s a high of 8 up until 2 weeks ago or so.

Bill, I agree with you that established players that have posted should not be held responsible for posting their high runs but it would be nice. If they do often. There are many players here that learn from those type of videos.
RobMan & TommyLee keep on reading & writing here. Remember, we were all at the same stage one time as you are right now. We worked at it and are still working at it. Keep on working at it and those #'s will go up & up.
 
I agree with the concept of external verification, but I think it's too strict to say that videos are mandatory for runs over XX balls. I wish we all had video for every time we play but unfortunately that's just not possible.

If an established poster claims a reasonable run (given the player's known skill level), we should be able to take him at his word.
 
Yeah i think thats what bill said that if an established guy that is reputable puts up a good number he should be taken at his word. its just for guys like me that couldnt run a rack with 6" pockets coming in and saying i ran off 104. it takes away frim everyones hard work and accomplishments.

Don't be afraid of posting you going through a full rack with all the misses, blown position and other flaws. Many on here will be happy to give constructive criticism of your play. I posted a 25 and a 27 a couple of years ago and the help was very beneficial.

For what my two cents are worth...

1) Claiming personal high runs are not the same as claiming high runs that approach world-record proportions. Yes it's rude and inconsiderate, but this is the Internet and that kind of behavior comes with the territory.

2) Requiring a video of a high run from a "stranger" sounds a bit elitist. As a longtime reader, I don't think this is really the case, you're all just trying to maintain a certain level of integrity. However, I've been reading these forums for almost 2 years and feel that I kind of know you all and know that that is what you're trying to do. A newcomer may just think you're being jerks.

3) It seems that the average age of a 14.1 enthusiast is a bit on the high side and therefore maybe not so involved on the Internet and so maybe just finding this place but still fully capable of running 70+ balls.

4) I believe in "innocent until proven guilty".

So if you're taking a poll, I would vote no on requiring videos of high runs before acknowledging it.

However, I love watching people play 14.1 so I'm very happy that people post their runs. I want to post some of my very low runs to get pointers, but my girlfriend can't get off her butt and choose a camera. Lest someone think I'm taking advantage of her and her stuff; she's been talking about buying a camera for 6 months and there's no sense in us both buying one, right?

I don't know what's up with the forum software, but I haven't been able to edit posts very easily, it just sits there with a spinning icon. The part in bold was not clear in my original post.

If I don't get one up soon ill def make sure to get some video on the 23rd dmgwalsh is supposed to be at red shoes for the az get together and were gonna shoot some 14.1 it'll be nice to actually try and play someone and get some pointers in person from an experienced player like you gentlemen

never hesitate to post runs-here- no matter how high or low they maybe! Here are far enough ppl who REALLY enjoy to watch for example vids from you and will try to help you out. You can be VERY sure about that!

It s just about this *famous* challenge high run list-nothing else. :-)

It now seems to require double clicking on Edit instead of single clicking to work promptly.
 
53 Today

I had a nice 53 ball run today until the cue ball got stuck in the rack. Had a good break shot to work with but it just did not open up properly. The hardest thing about the whole run is that my three Pomeranians would not leave me alone & all three laid down right where I had to walk to take shots. You know how hard it is to have the widest stance in the world while taking a shot.....LOL... They are right under me when the wife is not home.

Our standing "family" rules:

1 - Dogs are always in play, its a foul to provoke them to move.
1a - Dogs moving without provocation is not a foul.
2 - Only dogs are allowed to woof during a shot.
2a - Woofing between shots/games is allowed, dog or human.

LOL.... I totally agree, Love the list. Their so cute. They really do stop me from playing, they want all the attention. They have me trained....
