CTE/ProOne Help Needed

FWIW, I could see yoda struggle with the table size and change his pattern because of cue ball position. One miss was from shooting left handed another was from a stretched position. That table put a whooping on him as it did many others. I think he could put up a decent number on a 9 footer.

Seems appropriate for him to respond here as this is the thread where you made the attack on him.

Disagree. And, I didn't "attack" him. In fact, I wasn't even the first person to present the links to his video in this thread or call him out. I was polite and fair (as even Stan mentions), but factual. Let's keep the facts up-front -- he made the claim that he "had no problems with ball-pocketing on the 10-footers" (see post #25) and other folks (not me) decided to post the videos of him at the table to dispute that claim.

And, since the issue at hand here is his honesty about claimed high runs in straight pool -- an issue that has nothing to do with this thread -- let's be respectful to the OP and get this thread back on track. Let's move the discussion about honesty about high runs / abilities to the forum where they are being questioned -- the 14.1 forum.

Bridge Distance

Concerning manual pivots:

The system takes the cue to the shot line. The pivot occurs and then your eyes see the shot line. Manual pivoting is very strict with bridge distance and the 1/2 tip pivot.
The manual version is all about the pivot and precise bridge distances based on 2 fixed cue ball edges.

Visual Sweep or PRO ONE:

The eyes rule here!! The eyes pick up the shot first. There is no real pivot in PRO ONE, just a turning of the cue to CCB.

This means: As the body follows the eyes, the bridge distance can vary greatly. The eyes lead and the body can follow with most any bridge distance as long as the eyes are allowed to lead the way.

You can demo this for yourself. Just set up a simple cut shot and notice that your eyes pick up the shot first and from there you can do about whatever you desire with your bridge placement as long as you stay with your eyes.

CTE PRO ONE is a very strong visual system. That is THE reason why the cue should always be out to the side. One's cue should come in from the side with the bridge hand finally sliding into a perfect position.

A main consideration in Pro One is to be careful with unnatural and exaggerated bridge distances.

Now this 50 inch (4 diamond) adjustment is only for B alignment shots correct? it does not come into effect on a A or C alignment shot at that distance.

Perhaps I'm missing something but I believe what is being said is there is no such thing as a B alignment period at distances of 52" or greater between CB and OB. If I understood it right, it is either CCB - E, Edge to either A or C depending on left or right cut. If the cut becomes thinner at that distance to where neither of those will work, B is skipped and your next step is Edge to A or C. Final step would be the 1/8th overlap. That's my interpretation anyway.

Back to the primary point of starting this thread, somewhere in that there is a transition where it goes from CTE, E - A or C to E to A or C. Is there anyway to detect where that transition occurs, any clue whatsoever .... or does one need to HAMB to cover all the relative positions and know from experience where that transition is?

Yeah, don't make me take all those green reps back I've given you. LOL Next thing you know, CJ will be dropping in on this thread suggesting I use TOI. Even worse, English might suggest I spin everything (which I couldn't tell since I have him on ignore even though he has been playing for 46 years with great success - but admits to not being an instructor). I don't give a chit about 120 ball runs in 14.1, right now, I just want to win my APA matches. LOL

My opinion is this adjust varies on the cut angle and you can still use B at distances greater than 50 inches.

The transition occurs visually. As the distance increase the OB has a smaller appearance and the CB being closer appears larger.

At about 4 maybe 4.5 diamonds in some instances when you aim a CBE to OBB, it becomes impossible to perceive a CTEL. The CTEL would be in space.
It is all about perception.

I just put a couple balls on the counter and had a look. Now it looks to me like this would be a very minor perception adjustment that can be made while keeping the B visual at that distance. I think you can use the edge to A or C adjustment or make a minor perception adjustment using B. I think these adjustments belong in manual cte and once you move into pro1 your perception of the shot will be strong enough that an individual will personalize certain types of shots with his own perception.

Does this make sense lol I am not sure it makes sense to me :)

I removed you from my ignor list but I guess I should put you back on it.

I can spin them in.

I can put them in with 'center' hits

And now I can put them in with deflection.

If tommorrow someone comes out with a good way to pocket balls by bouncing the cue ball & it works I'll learn that too.

Bouncing a ball is a valuable situational shot. I'm talking about a prodominant method.

My mind is not closed to anything. Maybe if your mind was open you would win your APA matches.

PS I'm fairly sure that I've never used the words 'great success' in reference to myself. If so, it may have been in reference to a technique not me in general. I believe you are distorting the facts as usual.

Just catching up on this thread, but wanted to say I appreciate the extra info Stan on distance adjustments and eye patterns. Good to see confirmation of things I learned and am doing as well.

I too have found that I've been getting lazy sometimes and dropping into center CB (with either SEE or CTE/Pro1) but then "fidgeting" or practice stroking my way out of alignment! I got to practice a bit today and after a not-so-good time last night I figured it out. Thanks to your post I've confirmed that I need to keep going in that direction and really, really focus on CCB and maybe eliminate a stroke out of my PSR. Something I knew, and teach, but somehow lost the way on myself.

BTW, have had two great conversations with the OP, he's well on his way to really mastering the system!

I understand what and tweaks you are indicating can work as adjustments. But in the long run it is best to stay with the precise perceptions of CTE PRO ONE as much as possible. DVD2 will shed new light on the perceptions.

Scott, I appreciate your assists. It can be tough work. Gotta love it.

Stan,

I am excited about your second DVD. Not because I need it to understand how to execute CTE/Pro One... you have provided plenty of information between your 1st DVD, practice shots and AZ posts. But I want to learn more about why it works!

Real CTE is a visual system... not angle based and the fact that it works really fascinates me. I spoke with Hal Houle on the phone a number of years ago and I didn't understand what he was saying. But you documented and perfected his insight. Thanks to you, I am having fun again due to a leap in my shot making ability.

When will your second DVD be ready for release? Can I reserve a copy?

Thanks,
JW

JW,

I am excited about DVD2 as well. DVD2 will shed much light concerning the foundation of why CTE works. I think my explanation concerning that foundation should be optimal for most anyone.

I am unsure about a completion time for DVD2.
I am nearing an end to phase 1 editing. 2 more phases to go. Then it's copying time.

You can send me your email address and I can notify you of the earliest release time. stanshuffett@justcueit.com

Thanks for your interest!
