Shane and mike updates

Dechaine had good breaking stats which as painful as it sounds, kills his argument about the break contest.

I agreed with pretty much everything you said, but I had to fix this one part for you!

The numbers don't lie, when mike actually had a chance to break (between shane's packages) he made a ball just as often as shane! He made multiple balls very often too... I don't buy that mike was looking at "mission impossible" layouts after his breaks, while shane's were all cosmos.

IMO the break complaint was off base and sour grapes... If it's a breaking contest then this thing woulda been a lot closer. When mike misses 0 balls and still loses then maybe he can get away with saying that.

I have to say I also wish for the old TAR format where money is put up and one man gets the cash and the other guy gets nothing.

If, as you say, Mike knew he couldn't win then I have to say it was a pure freeroll and that is unfortunately not really "action".

Nothing to stop either player from side betting some of their own. I know shane woulda gone for that. If TAR goes back to the old 'format' then IMO this match simply never happens and we're all sitting here bored with no match to chat about.

Mike doesn't think he's the best in the country or world. He knew he was jumping in the deep end with Shane. But Mike will get over this loss quickly. He took a lot of heat after dogging his brains out on the Mosconi team, the bounced back and had a strong finish at Turning Stone. He will go to this next event and play fine.

Mike is young and has shown moments of amazing and moments of bad. But end of the day, Mike is a top American player and he will play any other American for the cash.

He won't play Johnny Archer

That's a good point as well. I mean for one thing we really can see what effect the extra practice and dedication does. Some folks have said that Mike is actually more talented than Shane. That could be true but talent unrefined is simply wasted.

When I was diving we had a kid who at 12 was better than us 18 year olds. He just seemed to get it and had excellent physical control. But he was bored and didn't bother practicing and so he quit because those with less "talent" were passing him up. He did go on to become a pretty good skater I heard who did really well in competitions.

I just think that I am now in the camp that prefers to see action on TAR where both players have it on the line and you know that losing means LOSING. Mike walks away with $1500 and expenses paid and for him it was nothing but a loss. I am positive that he doesn't really think Shane is better just that Shane had a better break during the match.

I mean I understand all the arguments for this format and I did agree with Justin on it. And I do think that there is some pride on the line. But not enough to actually hurt as in what happens in a real action match.

Maybe if TAR started a points list and ranked the players like boxing and in order to get some money at the end of the year you had to post victories. I don't know how that works exactly. Some major incentive though where losing REALLY hurt.

I don't know. I didn't even watch the match, I just wasn't excited enough about this one to care. Maybe next time they should do the undercard thing. I would pay to see some AZB grudge matches. At least we have some major ego on the line. :-)

What did they open the pocket size? Now I guess everyone thinks the table is too easy for SVB? But he did beat Appleton 25-17 - 25-17 when the table was tighter.
but when the pockets were tighter it wasnt a breaking contest it was whos the better player an he lost to dennis and johnny.
