I just posted a new video on YouTube showing how my dumb ass accidentally smashed my slow motion camera.

If you're a fan of my videos, this will make you sick. It makes me sick every time I watch it.

There are a couple of quality slow motion pool shots in there, too, and maybe a shot that some haven't seen before. But the slow motion shot of the smash is just sickening. :eek:

I should be able to continue shooting slow motion pool videos, I just need to keep working on the lens a bit.

Thanks for all your support and encouragement so far! I'll try to get AUSM Video 2 going as soon as possible.

That was brutal. Shows that it doesn't take much to make the balls fly. I wonder if it would be smart to build a plexiglass shield to shoot through?

Hope you can fix it, looking forward to many more cool slomos.
 
That sucks Blake. Glad you can still use the lens, I bet that stuff is pricey. Curious if they make a rubber or foam housing for the edge of it for protection. I'm guessing you've had some close calls before this.

Yep, brutal it was. It doesn't take very much elevation/speed to make either the CB or OB launch.

I usually set the camera back a distance, and zoom in to get the frame I want. I don't know why I didn't do it that day. Hence my "dumb ass" comment. :)

Manual focus still works fine, so it won't be a big problem shooting future videos. The autofocus was a little off though. I'm hoping a few hard resets will realign the AF. I use MF 90% of the time anyway, so no big deal, but MAN my heart sunk when I saw that ball hit the lens! Ouch!

This camera has been through hell and back, and still works just like the day I brought it home. Maybe I'll post the clip where my tripod blows over and the lens (again!) lands straight down in a nice wet yard planter pot. I tell you, those events are tough enough to witness in real time, but they are so much more dramatic when you watch em in SloMo! :)

This video was taken last Friday (with two fellow AZB'ers present, I might add :) ), and the AF has been much better since then, so I think it's okay. This damned camera just shakes it off like its nothing. Ridiculous. I'm seriously considering buying a second one...
 
Yesterday I watched a video where a diver had his underwater camera stolen for a few minutes by an octopus.

Today I watched a slowmo camera filming itself being assaulted by an eight ball.

I wonder what tomorrow will bring...

(Bad luck though - hope you get back up and running with your equipment soon.)
 
What kind of camera and lens do you use? If you anticipate falls, maybe make a foam or pvc cage?
 
I use the Sony ActionCam, records at 120fps. Comes in a waterproof housing (like a Gopro), but it can take a beating. I recently did some really cool shots with the break and balls were hitting it at full speed, still works fine. Highly recommend it. Bout $250.

I'm starting to realize why I'm getting hooked to this stuff, SloMo.
What you're showing is the stuff that is replayed in a player's mind
when they're trying to figure out what happened in a game.
...I've had shots that have haunted me for a week.

Ouch! That reminds me of the time about five years ago when I got hit in the right eye with a block of wood off my table saw at about 150 MPH.

Things looked blurry like that for about 30 seconds after the accident, until the front of the eye filled up with blood from my torn iris and everything went bright reddish-orange for about three weeks. Now I wonder what a slo-mo of that wood block would have looked like coming at me.

My lens never recovered. I had to have it replaced with an implant along with a lot of supporting structure to hold it in place within the damaged tissue. Hope your lens fares better. :)

I've much enjoyed your videos and you seem to enjoy making them.

Ouch!!! Hate to see that happen, but glad that some of the camera can be salvaged.

I bet the camera told you "I saw that coming....literally"
 
Good news:

I think the camera is back to normal now. It must have slipped some gears in the focusing mechanism or something, but it must have slipped back, because it's working A-OK now.

So we can now sinfully enjoy the epic destruction video, knowing that the camera is okay!

Better news:

I bought another one. Yep! I found an awesome deal on a used one (identical model), and I jumped on it. So now we'll be able to view breaks, shots, strokes, and other stuff in full slow motion from two different views!

3D slow motion is definitely a possibility if anyone is interested in that kind of stuff (I am!).

Thanks for checking out the videos. Now that the original camera is back online, I'll be able to get back to work in AUSM Video 2. Look for it in a couple of weeks. I'll post a new thread, of course.

Glad to hear the problem worked itself out naturally.

Also, it was a pretty sick looking shot. No pain no gain, right?!?

Yep, I will get that straight-in, squirt, swerve, spin, around the table, crazy cool shot into the next AUSM Video.

This time I'll back the camera off and zoom in. :)
 
That last shot looked like it was just bound to happen. I just do not understand why you did not have a glass or some other protection for your camera knowing that in pool shots there is always a chance of a ball coming off the table sooner or later. Very funny though.

Yeah, I know better than that. I usually put the camera 6+ feet away and zoom in. For some reason I didn't do it this time. Hence my "dumb ass" comment, referring to myself. Lesson reinforced.

But you gotta admit, I really did hit that thing right square in the face. :)
