Southwest cues....Just got my call...

Nothing at all wrong with Josey,Gilbert,etc. I have other nice custom cues besides South West(a nice Carmeli being one of my favorites), but South West to me,especially with an ivory ferrule and a medium layered tip, just have a hit,feel, and feedback that no other cue that I've used seams to have. Only one brand of cue can be your favorite, unless you have a tie at the top, mine is South West.

Yep, +1. I've loved them from day one for the way they play. It's just a bonus that all of the many that I've owned have been worth more whenever I've wanted to sell them than when I bought them. People ask me all the time what cue to buy. "I'm looking at this one..I tried that one.." and I tell them 'just buy a South West. Then you can quit looking.'

Exactly. I'll double and triple my money on my 1st 3. I'll have to say that I paid top dollar for the one that I just got, but I know it'll still increase in value. I plan on keeping them all unless I have to sell. Stock market cues indeed.

Number and Woods

Thanks for the reply Tank.

What's that phone number?

Is there a website? I went in search of one but came up empty.

Thanks in advance.

Probably came up empty because you spelled it wrong. Two words.

South West Cue

and for all the well-intention posts, South West generally uses only a handful of woods. That's part of their branding to keep the same look.

So, if you're looking for other woods other than what you see on any of these cues at IndyQ, then South West isn't for you:

The last couple of order forms I received from Laurie Franklin (aka Mrs West:) ) include this:

Wood choices include:

Amaranth [Purpleheart] = Amar
Birdseye maple = Bem
Cocobolo = Coco
Goncalo Alves = Alves
Gaboon ebony = Gab
Macassar ebony = Mac
Pauferro = Pau
Tulipwood = Tulip

To the OP:

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. Got the call from Laurie after a long wait, posted about it and a bunch of naysayers showed up in the thread (along with several well-wishers, too). The cue was gorgeous and turned out precisely how I envisioned but I had a super tough decison to make. Ultimately I ended up turning my cue into seed money for my then-1yr.-old little boy's college fund. I absolutely hated to see it go but for me and my family it was clearly the right choice.

Good luck with whatever you decide, chances are extremely high that you won't be disappointed. Unlike me you were smart enough to order 2, lol! :smile:

Did you ask for ebony up front?

Congratulations on your patience! Don't worry about what others say, in the end it will be your cue. Some people are impatient and pay big bucks in the secondary market. Their call. Those that don't like them.... there are a few hundred other cumakers that may better suit their taste. I've never played with one, and can't speak to the hit or playability. But clearly I can see the market value in them. But seems that's not the issue here...

Personally, I think you should be able to get anything you want (within reason), after all you are the customer. Seems ebony is reasonable to me, and if that's what you want they should find a way to get it. Its not like you are asking them to make a cue from carbon fiber, ebony is one of the most popular woods for cues and a top flite cuemaker should be able to get their hands on it. Maybe a nominal upcharge or something, after its not like a few hundred dollar cue... we're talking thousands.

Just my 2 cents.
