SVB vs Efren 8 ball

Well id say Efren by far out played Shane but Shane of course out broke him.

If Efren would have made a ball on the break a couple times shane would have easily lost.

I expect Efren to win the one hole action tonight.

Shane missed more balls than Efren but I wouldn't say he was outplayed. Shane does have a clear advantage with that break. I like Shane all 3 nights.

the break?

His whole life Efren has had a ok break. Efren is a great tourn. player , but gambling winner break hes never been the best .Jose Parica was always a bigger cash player. Buddy for sure and Earl Jimmy Reid today Shane with his break would run over Efren in any long race 9ball or 10 ball ,8ball set.IMO.

Earl thought that too... I think I remember Efren walking away with a 100G.
Big money IPT, who won? Whats these TAR matches? 5K or so? Just sayin...

:rotflmao1:

ya... that is why those guys followed him around the country .. woofing at him... from '84 on.... cause he was any easy target.... heck Earl even said he would play him a race to 120 (oh wait... never mind)... :banghead:

Rico, Efren is a stone cold champion in the gambling world. Problem is he's 60 years old and has been there done that.

For many years, Efren worked on kicking, safety play, and creativity, and very, very, little on the break. For decades now, that was enough to keep him at the top of the top.

Now that others are catching up with those areas, those that also practiced the break have seen the tide shift some. While not up to Efren yet on the other areas, they are close enough that the added improvement in their breaks have shifted the outcome to their favor. If Efren had ever seen the actual importance of the break, and practiced it, he would still be almost unbeatable. Without that break aspect of his game, he is now beatable even though he still is tops at the other areas. You need high proficiency in all areas to stay at the top, and he is now realizing that he missed one area completely.

Shane did enough and looked pretty comfortable out there. He obviously has a great deal of respect and reverence for Efren. Normally SVB's intensity can be seen on his face (I really noticed this live during the Daz match) to the point you can see it in his facial muscles and veins. Tonight was not that SVB. He absolutely wanted to win and put on a good show but his body language said "I got this".

Some of Shane's misses were his own. Others were situational because of the mess Efren was leaving after the break. How well did he play? Check out the table length shot he smooth rolls corner to corner from the jaws of the pocket for perfect shape on his last solid ball.

Father time spares no one. Tonight Efren get's home game advantage with no 130mph serve to contend with. We all love the man but the torch has passed.

it has been discussed here countless times that efren is this and efren is that, he's past his prime.. then he suddenly wins the IPT, wins master of the table in DCC, etc. ;)

Efren cant gamble?????

He came to Houston and I watched him take the cash from every living soul!!! Buddy got by him, but I dont think Buddy was running around looking for him like he was a trick and he took all of them down for years, I watched him run through the California and New York crowd when I thought it couldnt be done!

As far as the torch being passed, SVB is a player, tops in this country, top 3, 4, or 5 in world, but no one person has the torch yet, Dennis O??

I think efren said he practices about 30mins a day? Pool isnt a priority to him as before. Svb is in his basement 10hrs a day.

Do not know Rico, but IMHO, if this forum was along the rail 20 or 30 years ago Rico would have done quite well.

Not so sure?

Parica was the man for a long time for sure. Efren just took it to the next level as far as all around play, cash games, tournaments and winning more.

Buddy Hall, Jimmy Reid both played great and had there day, but that all changed with the invasion from the Philippines!

One that started there were few Amaerican players left standing and now theres one, SVB.

I dont know what Buddy's or Jimmys record was against them, but I would have to guess it wasnt good!

I am afraid I do not agree. Efren was a great gambler. You have to remember the guy is almost 60 years old. He took down Earl, in his prime, winner breaks, in a race to 120. Personally, I don`t think Parica was as good as Efren. The fact that he can still hang in there with a break and run machine like SVB, who is half his age, says a lot.

Funny how a guy loses by only a few games in a race to 27 against possibly the best player in the world its like he is washed up.

Last nights 8ball was a prime example of Shane.. He out broke Efren like he out breaks everyone.

Efren and his play last night continues to amaze me. The break stats don't lie.
If he played with Shane's break I think he wins. How is that for a 53 year old man that plays part time.

Nobody ever gave up more weight than Efren and came out ahead.

Forget the score. Efren today is not at his best. Go look at the color of money stuff on youtube and you tell me if the current Efren could hang with that guy. Did Shane out break him. Yah so....big surprise. Did SVB play his best? Not by a long shot.

Look I have a huge man-crush on Efren. Believing he's as good as he was is a lie. Tonight might just illustrate this. His best game. No big break to carry SVB if he's not in best form. Let's see if the Magician can still bring the heat.

back then efren would give only 40+ points to django on 15-ball rotation. if efren doesnt know you, he'd even give you 20+ points. and he still WINS.
