This is a link to a thread in the main part of AZB.

I am working on setting myself up at home here with a Gold Crown II Carom table. This was a fluke of a friend calling and knowing a "guy" who had this table for sale.

I own a plumbing HVAC Biz so I will be heating this table :) and putting it in my basement next to my GC4......sucks I know :)

any info you guys have on this table would be awsome....

Is it a 10-foot?

The main problem I can think of is that the cushions have gone dead. If so, you may want to look into replacing them with European rubber.

What cloth were you thinking of getting?

In general, the knock on such tables is that they play short but I'd see how it plays first. If you don't plan to enter tournaments and it is similar to your pool table, I think there is no reason to make it play as long as most modern tables.

I didn't realize you could "adjust" the length of how a particular table can play? This wasn't a table I was looking for, kind of just fell into my lap so to speak.

I guess you are right about the rubber. My plan is to find all the parts and put it together correctly.....not that parts are missing....it even has the plastic skirts... I don't want to cover it and find out the rubber is dead. I don't know much about cloth, but I guess the 300 Rapide?

This is exiting though. I never thought I would be able to have a nice 10 footer at home here on a budget :) A friend of mine is a table mechanic, and my other buddy sells pool and billiards equipment, so...I'm either lucky, or just a pool geek! :)

If you can't get the table level and flat for one reason or another, 300 Rapide could be a problem. The ball will roll for a long, long way and if the table is not flat and level, the ball will roll in circles. Since you plan to heat the table, you will likely get maximum speed out of whatever cloth you install.
 
Interesting! What cloth would you suggest if there are issues with leveling the table?

My GC4 is going to be moved accross the basement, and the Carom table is taking its place. There have been no issues with leveling to this point.....I keep the basement at about 45% humidity....and I can adjust that if needed.

What ball set do you like to play with? For learning reasons I like the 3 dot Aramith Pro Tournys. Most likely I will get more then one set to see how different they play.

As for which cloth, 860 will be slower if that's needed. Personally, I like as much speed as I can get.

At this point there are not many choices in carom balls. The main thing is to keep them polished. I like the Aramith polish but Chem-Pak also works well. The polish can remove scuffs from miscues and bad contacts.

SE PA, eh? Maybe I can get by the next time I visit Mike Shamos in Pittsburgh.
