1. Do you prefer being "interviewed" prior to your match on the TV Table?


2. Or do you prefer to provide "details" about your profile prior to the tournament event via email through the use of an easy to fill in form?

While this may seem like a silly question, it isn't really as silly as one might think. All tournaments that provide Live Streaming want to provide the best content for the events. Current and accurate information that is of interest to the viewing audience is only available directly from the players themselves.

Sponsors would certainly be pleased to hear their name mentioned, even if it is only a minor sponsor. I would be so bold as to think that players might even entice prospective sponsors by listing their current sponsors on profile forms.

I write this with respect to all professional players as well as those who are working their way up the ladder and would appreciate your responses here in this forum to be discussed.

The fact is that people want to know all about the pro players and these are the two most practical methods that have been used in the past to acquire the needed information.

Also importantly, I would like to know why any pro player (top player) would not want to provide this basic information.

JoeyA, I havn't heard you do any commentary but since you are asking these questions you must have something big lined up. Please let us in on what you have lined up and also for those of us who are not in the know can you please tell us about some of the other big events or just events that you have done commentary on. Maybe we can look them up on youtube and see JoeyA in action.

Surely you jest? :D

I am just one of the many people in the pool industry that are trying to do something good for pool and the players. What I have done is created a one page, player profile form which can be filled in on any computer. It simply contains information that fans and sponsors want to know about and it takes about 15 minutes to fill it in completely.

The form is useless if professional players don't see the need to use it and that is the purpose of this thread to discuss the need or non-need of this form.

For years, I have seen "interviewers" quizzing players just before their match about their equipment, their sponsors, their nicknames, their wins and titles etc. The "interviewers" do this furiously taking notes as the players give short answers to these important questions, probably because they have a match coming up and don't want to be distracted but maybe it is something more.

Perhaps the players don't see the benefit to them.

Perhaps the players don't see the return on their investment of their time.

Perhaps it is the same thing with the Player Profile Form.

Or perhaps it is something entirely different?

Anyway, this is a chance for the players to share their perspectives.

As to your question about the matches that I have done commentary on, you can "Bing" or "Google" my name Joey Aguzin and add "billiards" behind it and you should be able to view a lot of matches that I have provided commentary for. You can go to the various following entities and do the same: youtube, ustream, inside pool magazine (insidepoolmag.com), poolactiontv.com I've even enjoyed doing some commentary for Pat Fleming of Accu-Stats fame.

My next big event is The Ultimate 10 Ball Championship ultimate10ball.com which is of course, two events going on at the same time, a MEN's event and a WOMEN's event with a total of $100,000.00 of added money in the two events.

I've been amazed at the lack of information the commentators have to pass along to the viewers. You've probably already thought of this, but I'd like to add:

How did each player arrive at this point in the match? Who did he beat/lose? (of course, showing a graphic would communicate it best, but that seems to be beyond any streamer). Were any of these matches particularly noteworthy (hill-hill, lopsided, etc)? You can also take other interesting notes like hard shots made, easy shots missed, etc. Those shots will come up again, and it's great to note those for the audience.

What is the won/loss record between these opponents? In the last year how many times have they met? Result?

Paper and pencil are amazing tools. In a one-pocket match you can keep score (I can't count the number of times I've heard both commentators arguing about the ball-count...and both of them are just guessing). For all games, draw a little rectangle for each rack and mark where the breaker broke from and the result (I like it when the commentator notes that a player changed CB position; it's a heads-up that adds to the experience).

And you've got to end every sentence with a loud, screeching L-I-V-E !!!

You have some excellent suggestions. I wish that all commentators had more resources at their disposal. Commentators in other sports often have people that regularly feed them the data throughout the broadcast. Unfortunately, there isn't enough revenue for that sort of thing. Now if we can get some volunteers to collect that data, :wink: we're in business.

Your other suggestions are appreciated and noted and we'll work hard to improve on our efforts to provide better commentary in the future. Sometimes, operating cameras, promoting sponsors, keeping up with the matches, the chat room and other distractions, just gets the better of the hard-working commentators.

I've always admired Sid Waddell but I would be hard pressed to imitate his style. :smile:
 
I thought the pro players might be a little slow on responding, so I guess I will have to wait until the forum members talk to their local pro players and see what their perspective is.
