Dynamo in Australia. Advice needed.

American tables are few and far between in Australia, so I was happy to see a Dynamo advertised for a great price.

I got a chance today to see it close up and it was a very tidy table, with no scratches on the top or sides. The cloth is the old English type which I would replace with simonis anyway so that’s not really a factor.

The rails seemed to play well, though one or two spots made a deeper sound when the ball came off the rail. I’m not educated enough with tables to know if it is a ‘dead spot’ or the rails need to be replaced. It might be something I can look at down the track if I take the table on.

I was able to get a key which opened up the side window/draw as well as the underside compartment which allowed me to view the ball return and slate. The ball return looked in order.

The slate had a crack running across it. I’ve taken some photos which are attached though they aren’t great.

The crack looks like it’s had some filler across it so it’s more than likely happened prior to the installation of this table into the venue. I felt the top and of course couldn’t feel anything though the only way i could find if it the crack goes all the way through would be to remove the cloth and that would mean purchasing the table.

My question is, can there be a crack in the underside of the slate and the top still be perfect? Or is it more than likely the crack goes all the way through. I’d imagine replacing the slate would be near impossible in Australia so depending on everyone’s opinions, I’m holding off from pulling the trigger on the purchase.

I’m after some opinions on what I’m facing and if anyone has taken on a dynamo to do the rails etc. My aim is to not upset the mechanic who will come and help install the table and simonis in the future. This table would be perfect for an outside area I’m doing up so im hopeful for good news

Any advice is really appreciated.

If the slate is cracked, it goes all the way through. The crack can be filled with super glue and it'll be fine, as long as it's not in 2 pieces already. With the cloth off, before you take the slate out of the cabinet, find the crack on the top side and fill it with super glue, wait until it dries, then lift the slate out of the cabinet to recover it.

Firstly, thank you to RKC for the advice.

I purchased the table, we did our best, all the way up to the last hurdle and the slate cracked in half through the existing crack.

Pretty devastated. After a long day of checking, double checking, measuring, lifting, and driving below the speed limit to avoid bumps on the road.

Could anyone offer advice from here? The slate is cracked with shards of slate cracking off.

Should i go to billiard/snooker/pool table maker and see if they can replicate the slates measurements?
The 7' brunswick tables we play on seem to have similar dimensions. Is there a possibility it will be the same slate size and I could talk to the Australian distributor?
I know shipping will hurt but is replacement slate available from valley/dynamo and if so what would I expect to pay?

Sorry to be a pain, just have no idea where to go from here.

Thanks in advance.

Dave.

Any 43"x83"x3/4" will do. If I were there, I'd just fix the one thats broken;)

Hi mate.

It's only recently happened so its where it snapped.

If I can get it onto a solid surface and put them together, what bonding agent should i look to use?

P.s. if your up for a holiday.....
