So I've been looking for a way to set something up in my garage mainly just to spin shafts to clean them for now, eventually moving toward doing tip work and such. However, with a wedding and honeymoon coming up I'm on a very limited budget (like, non existent lol) I have an idea on something to set up using a cordless drill however I'm not sure what to use to hook into the shafts. I was thinking I could use a bolt the thread size of the shaft I'm cleaning with a nut and washer to make sure I don't run the bolt in too far and damage anything. However, the majority of my shafts are 5/16-14 and I can't find any bolts that size, everything in my local stores are 5/16-18 and won't work. I know some lathes use a rubber piece that just goes over the outside of the shaft but I have know idea where to get those either. So basically I'm just looking for some advice on where to either find the rubber piece some lathes use on the outside of the shaft or a 5/16-14 bolt I could use to put the shafts on. Anyway, an odd request I know, just trying to figure out how to use things I already have to do the work. After the wedding and honeymoon I plan on getting a small lathe, just mainly for shaft work, but right now I've got extreme tunnel vision and getting this idea in my head to work lol
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Steve
