10' Table Old Style Slow Cloth

I wish some poolroom owner or match up venue would recover a 10' table with old style slow cloth and have 4 1/2" pockets...old type rail rubber if can find. Then we could see how the top players of today play on it. Earl would be a favorite with just about anyone playing rotation games IMO. I think a few PPV matches would go over big. Old guys like me would tune in as would some of the younger players and fans that never played on it or saw players play on it. Johnnyt
 
I can get a 10' snooker table fro $500. needs some love, but if you wanna set it up Johny it's all yours.

Yes you are right, as that's how they came from Brunswick, but most rooms back in the day had at least one table that had the pockets tightened for the strong players that played there. That is the type table the top players played on for rotation games. Johnnyt

Seeing them play on an old style table don't mean that much to me if its going to cost me more than PPV $. LOL. Wife and I both on SS now. Have to watch what I spend $ on. Johnnyt

I played on lots of 5x10s with 4.5 inch pockets.

But I never want to play on slow cloth again....
...they are barbaric conditions.

On fast cloth, there's things great players can do that lesser players can't.
On slow cloth, there's a lot of things NOBODY can do...so the gap narrows
between top and short-stop players.

How is that good for the game?
If they stopped mowing the greens and fairways two weeks before the
Masters, the best golfer would still win...but the scores would be higher.

respectfully you have it backwards, JA, Sigal, Varner, Kim and a few other top players said the oppsite the fast cloth narrowed the gap when it cam around in the late 80's, especially Nick he really didnt like it. I noticed it myself, on fast cloth it dont take much of a stroke to move the rock-which lets lots of lesser players do things they cant of slow cloth
 
I began playing pool 2 years ago on a table with slow cloth. Last year we had it recovered with Simonis 860.

It is definitely easier for me to play on fast cloth because the harder I need to hit the ball, the less accuracy I have. It took a couple of weeks to keep from hitting the CB four rails on a thin cut, but I (and my playing friends) adjusted.

I see no advantage or reason to return to slow cloth.

I actually have more experience on slow cloth than those guys...
...and they're flat out wrong.
Did you read my golf analogy?...same on a billiard table.

A great snooker player hit a ball with spin and stopped it...
...it sat there and spun for 34 seconds on 31 oz cloth.
A player in Chicago did the same shot on a carom cloth...
....3 MINUTES it spun.

Eric, are you saying the best horses are mudders?
 
id rather just like to see someone set up a table like the one mosconi set his 14.1 record on and have players (pay to) attempt to beat it, like $100 a try prize pot and like a $xxxxx added for a "new" record. Im really surprised we havent seen that yet . OR Is it that no one (secretly) wants to see his record broke?:rolleyes:
having pro tournaments or challenge matches on old 10 footers with big pockets and slow cloth would be a novelty at best.... imho.

I did not say all pool should be played on slow cloth. I simply wanted to see how todays young guns play on slow cloth. I think it would sell a bit. Johnnyt

These young players got strokes that can handle slow cloth....
...but they would have to use a heavier cue and change their choice of shots.
....they'd do it real quick.
But the game would be more boring.

Alex played a 200 ball runner from NYC about 10 years ago....14.1...
...Anniversary 9 foot with 5 inch pockets.
The cloth was a bit loose and dirty....played REAL slow.

They quit even after two games....high run was 30.

I'd agree with that. It just takes a better stroke to get some of the same things done on the slower cloth. I still have a slow cloth on my Sport King & I am debating what cloth to put on it when I move it back from son's house.
