Here are my observations about the recent tournament happenings in general.
1. Carlo Biado is the newest best kept secret from the Philippines. A true force to be reckoned with anytime he enters a room.
2. Staking, or asking to be staked, on a public forum is a recipe for disaster. Yes, John Schmidt got staked and won the US Open a few years back. Also heard Rodney Morris was staked by 3 forum members for the 10b and won, but I don't think that was a public plea. Too much drama.
3. California seems to be a good stopping place to kill a bit of time between Tunica and the Vegas tourneys. Hardtimes had a killer field for a tournament inbetween.
4. Can Wang stormed the scene at the Ultimate 10 ball. But turned into too much hype too soon. He did decent in other tournaments, but didn't take the world by storm.
5. The Asian invasion didn't really happen. As much as we heard Ko Pin Yi, his little brother, and others were going to storm the shores of the USA and take all the money home, it didn't happen. Of course they play great, and it's always hard to come to another country and adjust. We don't send many USA players over there, so it's not a knock on them.
6. Streaming is strong and getting better every day. There are a lot of good people in the pool and streaming business.
7. Badi Nazhat is a fresh new face in the tournament promotions biz. I hope he continues and adds more quality events in the future.
8. Joe Tucker just may have something with his ABC League. I hope it works.
9. Texas Bumps, not so much.
10. Bonus ball - Only time will tell.
