The Decider Day One Thoughts

Shane smiling now, 2 down on break. Shane out.26-22. Earl's not smiling anymore.

2 down on break, has 5 pack going on 6....gets it. 28-22 Shane. Earl says, "mind if I check the rack??"

Makes 2 on break again. Hit combo too hard trying for breakout and tied up several of his balls. Down to 3 balls, breaks out last problem, runs out. 29-22 Shane. Beautiful out that time. Tight position play.

Or.....

Is it just me or does anyone else find it odd that after 2 days, we could potentially have Shane beating arguably the greatest Tournament/ Exhibition 9-Ball player of most of our lifetimes and Earl beating the greatest BB 8-Ball player of our lifetimes?

And so it should come down to CALL SHOT 10-BALL !...

Is Shane just unbeatable on a BB and Earl was in his prime when Shane was still Shi**ting himself ?...

1 ball down. Shane on the hill. Should be out for an 8 pack...he is! Shane wins 30-22. Earl jumps up to check out the break the way Shane was hitting them...makes some balls. Tough way for Earl to lose....great shooting by both.

Earl kept it real close until Shane finally figured out the break and ran the set out. Believe it or not, "back in the day", the top guys did that a lot. I've heard first hand of one guy running a 10 pack in 9 ball, and his opponent gets up and puts down an 11 pack! Top bar table action is TOUGH!

If I was Earl I would pack it up and head home His days are over no need to stick around and get thumbed again in 10 ball

Why do you say that?? What was he supposed to do while Shane was putting down an 8 pack to run out the set? Earl stayed right with him until Shane did that. Could just as well have been Earl putting down that 8 pack. He's not washed up yet.

Yes, Shane might be the favorite tomorrow, but it's not a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination if Earl keeps his head right.

This wasn't really a case of Earl being done and not shooting well, he shot fine and kept
neck-and-neck with shane. Played a nice breakout and got a tough roll.
Shane never let him back to the table after that.

It isn't that Earl needs to go home, it's that they need a much longer race.

The only chance Earl has is in a short race , the longer the race the more it benefits Shane ,

Totally agree with you here, Neil. Earl can still piss with the big dogs any day of the week. I think he played great, and made some pretty impressive outs. But then it's 22-22 and Shane goes into full beast mode and runs an 8-pack. Nobody wins from the chair, not even Earl.

Totally agree, Call shot 10 ball , Earl still has a good chance. Also, race to 50, especially on a BB...like Earl's not capable of doing the same thing to Shane tomorrow ?

Earl played possibly as good as he can and still lost ,Shane was just hitting gear
I have no reason to believe that he won't dial that break tomorrow the shorter race gives Earl a punchers chance

Do we know how many huge tournaments have been won with far less than a 927?

Hey, sorry for the long read, feel free to skip past. I skip most long posts too.

Earl played excellently today. He scratched on the break while up 22-21 IIRC, and Shane went full Shane. Earl's entertainment factor today was offf the charts. He might have talked a bit. Hell, he held court. Every second he could. :grin-square: He was funny as hell, while always showing glimpses into his thoughts. I only cringed in a couple spots thinking he might go tilt, but then he'd crack a funny and a grin. Yes, he did get up at the end a couple times to check the rack and CB vs headstring, but at that point, he knew Shane wouldn't be knocked off his keel. (Respect between these 2 is perhaps deeper than we know.)

OK, picture a long winged pterodoctyl's body language with a 6 foot stick in claw:

"What do you mean? I can't check the rack!?" lmao

That was an awesome, awesome match! AMAZING play in tight quarters, fast table. Yet on many ocassion they'd just hammer the balls to force whitey onto a postage stamp. Thanks Neil for keeping people updated! I was all up in the chat.

This chat has been the most civil I've witnessed. It was a blast there. I signed my poolplayin, pool chat virgin GF up for it today, and she was just like a kid in a candy store - posting instigatory wide eyed and bushy tailed . I begged her to not drop the 'BB word" in chat. How'd that work for me? Anyway, she's no longer a chat virgin. I'm a lucky guy. I think...

But, if you hadn't yet dosed off, I really want to send out kudos to the Decider moderators - they were on their game 100%. I had small, minute issues, CMBSWPFFFT (or whatever his name is Bob ;)) jumped in on AZ hours before Day 1 kickoff. Then during night 1 via chat PM, our AZ's Slo-Mo-Holic dropped @ 30 minutes straight, guiding me through things and teaching me (he's pretty funny too, owe ya a beer!). He had backup tech assistance by SharkeN-1. Then Day2, SharkeN-1 PM'd me in chat to follow up. He gave me his ph # which I saved in my cell. He asked me to call him anytime in the future if I might have ANY POVPOOL thoughts/concerns.

Hats off to these guys!

Great job TWheels! Feel double free to go reward yourself with some McD's you masochistic, deranged Aussie! ;)

With that said, I open the window. My window holds up to $50,000. I'll give Shane -31. Must confirm.

Seems pretty clear that you just want to dis Earl, not live in reality.
