oldzilla --You captured that screen shot when it said the run was 122. They quickly corrected it to 121 a few seconds later.

And since he scratched on his final shot, the "score" would actually have been 120 (with a run of 121).

I've been a bit critical of some of the news stories posted on the AzB front page in the past. The reporters sometimes have considerable difficulty with the numbers they report. And that's unfortunate, because these articles will become part of the historical record for our sport and may be referenced many times in the future regarding who did what in the past.

Although today's "Hohmann Makes It Happen ..." article is well written, it contains factual inaccuracies. Although there are others, the mistakes in the portion about Danny Harriman are the ones I'll cite.

- The article says Danny lost his first 6 matches and won has last 2. No, he lost his first 5, then won 2, then lost his last match (to Immonen).

- The article says Danny held Ortmann to 8 points. No, the final score was 75-30.

- The article says Danny ran 39 & out to beat Souquet. No, it was 16 & out.

- The article says Souquet scored 55 in that match. No, it was 54.

Obviously, this stuff is kind of minor in the overall scope of things. But I'm a stickler for accuracy in reporting on pool matches, and it kind of irks me to see inaccuracies so often.

Very good.... all good points of interest. If a writer can not get the facts right, than the article should not be written.

Conventional wisdom is that it is a disadvantage to have to play the opening safety break shot.

In this event, the breaker won the game 8 times and lost 12 times.

More immediate than the overall game result is how successful the incoming player's response was to the opening break. In the 19 matches for which I watched the break, the incoming player played safe 3 times and tried to pocket a ball 16 times -- 8 makes and 8 misses.
- Following the 3 safes by the non-breaker, the breaker made a ball in his second inning only once (and the point total for those 3 innings was zero);
- With the 8 makes, the non-breaker made a total of 102 points in his first inning, with only one good run (57);
- Following the 8 misses, the breaker made a total of 182 points in his second inning, with two good runs (69 and 70).

Can we draw any conclusions from this? Probably not with so few games.

many Thanks Accu Stats videos

Just wanted to say thanks to Mr. Pat Fleming and the crew with Accu - Stats for the invite to such a first class event. I was irked' that I did not play well in the early stages of the event, not used to the Artemis rubber anymore. It was a great venue and New Jersey really is 14.1 Country. I was and still am honored to have been invited. The players present were all true gentleman and great representatives for the sport of pocket billiards. So thanks again Pat and the family of Accu Stats for the invite - I understand there are many who would have liked to have been in my spot on that day and I am thankful that I had the chance to compete against some of the best Straight Pool players on earth. I had the chance to watch a match between two great players from my own Accu-Stats collection the other day, Buddy Hall and Nick Varner were commentating the match. Accu-Stats is a great teaching tool for anyone really interested in pocket billiards, listening to Buddy and Nick talk One Pocket is really almost priceless knowledge in my view.:smile:
