Guys I need a new break jump cue and I am looking at a stinger or a TNT with a purple heart shaft. What cue do you guys think is better for me to order or better cue in general?
Thanks

I used and owned both. The TNT with the purple heart shaft was in my opinion by far the better of the two for breaking and jumping.

All I know is the Jerico Stinger break jump cues are the shiznit!!!

Break fantastic and jump even better

My .02 cents

I've had stinger in the last year, and now have a TNT classic j/b. The stinger is great for breaking, the CB flies off the tip, but lacks in the jumping department. The TNT is a monster. I have the classic which is bacote spliced into purple heart. It's ugly as homemade sin, but breaks hard and jumps very easily. The jump handle portion is also a little longer which makes it more versatile IMO. The break is also very controllable with the TNT.

That would be great

I caught a cold; started feeling sick over the weekend, and felt like crap when I finally got out of bed today. I definitely have to go out tomorrow night. I'll bring both and hit some racks with each.

What about the new McDermott Stingers

I have two buddies who use the McDermott Stinger. I've never tried one, but I've never heard either of them complain about theirs.

Tnt

The TNT in my opinion is much better than the stinger. But you know what they say about opinions. Thanks, clint

Just a bit of info....the TNT models that are being discussed here are now "Summit" cues.
Troy is still doing well with TNT cues and TNT Billiards.
However, the TNT break/jumps discussed here (some of which are probably Summit's) are no longer available through TNT. Troy and I still work together, but as independent companies.
All three models of the break/jump cues ("Classic", "Mamba" and "TKO") were my design and I have been marketing them exclusively as "Summit" cues for a 5 months now.
I had TNT build the Classic's and the Mamba's as well as a couple prototypes of the TKO but the intention all along was to develop this venture into my own company once we got the cue's design and components firmed up.
Hope this might clear things up a bit as to which cue brands are being compared here.
I'm really quite proud of the Summit cues and if you look at cost, materials AND performance, I dont think the cues take a back seat to anything out there.

I hit some racks and played jump shots with the Jerico Stinger and Alex Brick cues last night. Not as many as I'd like to do a real heads up comparison, I'm sick, but I did want to get you at least some initial opinions on them.

The short version is that I find the two cues to be very similar.

They both break well and neither requires a monster stroke to produce a good spread. In fact, on a bar box playing 8 ball, a break speed of 16-17mph seemed to consistently result in less clusters than a 19-20mph break with both cues. However, this is based on a fairly small sample. I'd like to compare at a faster break speed, but if I go any harder than about 20mph it starts to hurt my back and even if I didn't have the back issue I doubt I could go much more than mid-twenties anyway. I have a buddy who breaks a little harder, still not more than mid-twenties, who has wanted to test all of our jump and break cues. I'll try to get him out next week and do some better testing if anyone is interested.

As I said, the cues are very similar... jumping included. Both cues jump well and very accurately. I have jump cues that can get the cue ball up quicker, but they're less accurate. If you're jumping from more than a ball width away you won't have trouble with either of these. If I absolutely had to clear a full ball at closer than a ball width, I'd break out my Lightning Bolt and hope for the best, but I'd rather be kicking.

Hopefully next week I'll take all my jump and break cues out and do some testing with my buddy. We've really been meaning to do this for a while, maybe this will prompt us to do so. Again, if anyone is interested in the results I'll post them.

Lastly, I think you can pick up a Jerico Stinger for around $350 now. The Alex Brick is about $100 less. I like them both, but don't see a $100 difference between them. If Clint responds and says the TNT/Summit is demonstrably better than the Jerico Stinger then go with the Summit. If it's noticeably better than one it will be noticeably better than both IMHO. If he's comparing it to the McDermott Stinger I can't weigh in on that. I may be able to try out a McDermott this week or next, I'll let you know.

INFO: The Alex Brick is 19.9oz. and has three layers of a Samsara tip on a phenolic ferrule. The Jerico Stinger is probably around 18.5oz. (I'll try to get it weighed) with about 5 layers of Jerry's hard leather tip. I'm not sure what the ferrule material is, but it does not appear to be phenolic.

DISCLAIMER: The information contained herein is by no means scientific, nor the result of testing by what you'd call a competent breaker, jumper, or pool player.

I still have a few TNT Jump Breaks available. Bocote into Purpleheart with the Purpleheart shaft. PM me if interested.

Jerico Stinger

I have a Jerico Stinger J/B and it hits like a mule on crystal meth.
Jumps smoothly with control. The guy who owns Jerico cues backs the cue for life.
I bought the cue new from a dealer in Columbus, Oh. The cue is rosewood into maple.

I have no knowledge of this TNT cue you speak of.

I stand corrected. I do have a summit classic j/b. But now I know why I got them confused
