Best Production Cue for $400-$500??

I thought Jacoby was a custom maker.
You're able to find these on amazon.com? I see them on ebay, but not on amazon.

Thats what I was wondering. There are alot of posts about custom cues but it makes me wonder if these are all listed on the amazon website.

Just looking for some opinions. I got 400.00 in giftcards at work and am getting them to amazon.com because they are the only website I could get that has a decent selection of pool cues. There are Joss, Schon, Predator, Pechauer, Jacoby, Meucci, Viking, Lucasi etc... pool cues. Nothing custom but all production cues.

My question is... In your opinion, what is the best bang for your buck for production cues in the 400-500 price range. I could always toss a few hundred towards it to get a nicer stl schon or ikon predator but I would rather just say I got a middle-end production cue that cost me absolutely nothing. So far, I've been looking at the predator 6 point roadlines (wrapless of course), some of the joss and some of the lower end schons. Also been looking at the Pechauers. I have Pechauer and am a huge fan of them and even though there are tons of nice ones, I kinda want to get soemthing else to try out. However, if you would get the Pechauer, feel free to explain why.

If it was you and you had the giftcards to get a cue, what brand would you get and why? I know there are some relatively unique responses to some of the questions posed here so lets assume that you HAVE to use the giftcards at amazon.com and it HAS to be on one of the cues on the amazon website. I appreciate everyones opinions.

Thanks alot for your opinions.

Something else I though of, you can usually sell your giftcards for cash on craigslist for maybe 90% of value, you can get the cash and then get a cue from anywhere.

you know I thought about that... If I cant find a decent cue on amazon, I could always do that and come here and just buy one from someone. Then again, if I can't find something decent on there then I dont think I ought to be buying cues at all as there are some pretty nice choices there, lol.

Little Al (hardtimes) 250-300$

But i hear his assembly line is a little slow. :D:D

Serious, true production: I would look for a old Mc'derm' c series maybe a D for
around 200-300........Before i purchased any new production cue.

Maybe a new low line Pred. if you like the LD, would be the best production cue imho

Honestly I have some nice cues Scruggs etc, and I still prefer using my OB 2 shaft on them over the original. Call me crazy but I think I could be fine with and OB 2 shaft and a cheap butt.

Are there any local dealers in your area? If so you can see most of these brands in person and might even be able to do some test hits. I love seeing wall to wall cues and suddenly one just pops out at you. Also you may be able to see if there are any major events coming up in your area. I know APA and BCA hold major events and there are tons of vendors. I personally dont like ordering cues off the internet. Like the see and feel them before I make a purchase.

Something else you can do, is click on the link on the top of this page that says "AZB marketplace". That is Seyberts.com. You can see if your gift cards will work there and their customer service can't be beat. You'll find all the same brands you mentioned plus OB and McD like some others have suggested

Yes, I will take a look at that, lucky. I'd be suprised if amazon giftcards work there, though.

Jburkm002, unfortunately the closest to me is a place called Robbies Billiards and all they have is a few Pechauers and a bunch of Mcdermotts. Other than that, there is Charlies Pro Shop at The Green Room in Baltimore, MD which is about 1 1/2 hours away. I go to Baltimore for playoffs in early October so I may hold out to test hit a few there and see if anything "pops out" as mentioned.

As of right now, after looking at amazon... My choices are leaning toward either the Predator 6 point wrapless roadline, any Schon in the 500 and under price range and then there are 1 or 2 Joss cues that looked pretty nice. Its mostly between the Schon and the Predator Roadline right now. Its not bad to get a decent looking cue with a predator low deflection shaft but then again for an extra 80.00 you can get a Schon for 500 that has ebony and Ivory inlays if you are into that.

So many choices!!!

I would recommend

you get a Schon, an OB, or a sneakie Pete (wasn't it Keith Josey putting out SP's for $400?).

There ya go. Offer up your GC's in trade in the WFS section and see if you can't find a Josey. Nobody on this forum can say anything bad about a Josey

You should really look at AZ wanted for sale first. lots of great buys. By the way There are a lot of Kevin Varney on there some times. Some of them are in your price reach and they are a great playing cue.

Mezz hit

You asked about how a Mezz hits. They hit stiff. Very similar to the hit on a Schon or Joss. I think they are all comparable. You just have to find out how pretty you want the thing to look. I shoot with a Schon LTD that is matched up with a Predator 314-2 shaft. Love it. Your resale value is going to be great on all 3 of these brands.

Gotta be a Joss :)

I agree, 5bones gets you a lot of "custom" cues here used. It would also buy you a nicely loaded Joss Custom from the glory days.

But as you said, it's got to be on amazon right.

Now go get that Joss

(I'd love to try a schon)

I'm playing with a Joss with a Z2 shaft, and I'm fine with him.

If I had to choose from Joss, Schon or Mezz, I'll take a fancy Schon, they seems to keep their value better. If you don't care for the look, take a Mezz.

Kanaka Creek Cues- Custom cues for the price of a Production!

Keith at doc's cues is making custom cues for the price of a factory stamped out cue. They can make smaller dia shafts for the snooker and golf players. Diamondwood gives the accuracy of a snooker cue in a Pool cue and and .They do have (( new stock of underwaterwood) shafts in the making now too!! I give them my approval .thanks in advance for looking up KankaCreek Cues. A custom cue for the price of a Production cue. mark

i really love my Lucasi Hybrid.

most underrated cue out there, imo. much better feel than Predator, and i like the shaft taper better than OB (which is otherwise a great cue, as well).

Thorsten Hohmann seems to hit ok with Lucasi.
