In the main forum someone posted the old fats vs mosconi vid. I wasnt too impressed with there strokes. I realize they are the possibly the greatest players ever and dont want to go there, but would love to hear what " modern times " instructors have to say about them. Im more interested in willies first few games of nine ball.

1. Their stroke is a unique product of themselves.
2. You are not them, nor is anyone else.
3. One can possibly learn to be great using all sorts of strokes if they hit enough balls and pick up on what they are doing.
4. No instructor would correct them, because they don't have a problem doing it the way they do.

I think they said Mosconi was 65 at that time. By then he had already had at least one stroke (and I don't mean pool stroke). Fats was 70. Neither had competed in any serious competition for many many years. In fact, this show was for entertainment purposes even though it was billed as a competition.

When these guys were in their prime, I think they were significantly more disciplined with their fundamentals. I watched the whole show and I saw some good things that showed a high degree of knowledge on both sides.

I actually played them both around that time. Willie ran 100 on me and Fats let me win because he had a soft spot for the underdog and he saw that I was up against it being a woman in a room full of shouting men.

so if they were not legends and were unknown guys playin off the street you still would have no comments on there strokes? If their strokes are said "unique to them" why correct anyone?

Because the video you're showing us are of two senior citizens long retired from the game at the time of the filming.
