New ferrule deflects more than the original

My 12mm McDermott shaft deflected about the same as a 314 ie not much at all. Since having the ferrule replaced, it deflects a LOT more.

I assumed the CM would do a like for like replacement, but the new ferrule is quite a bit longer, and more industrial looking, which is presumably why it deflects more.

What are the options for getting it back to where it was in terms of deflection?

If it is longer, then that likely means he took more wood off the shaft and changed materials and who knows what.

Pictures would help, focused and up close. If not in focus, they will not help. Use the macro feature on your cell phone.

Yeah, I wondered about that. The old ferrule was smashed to pieces when I got it, and I hardly slow roll anything myself lol. It was a mess, so may have taken some improvisation when replacing it.

I'm not sure what pictures will show - it's the standard Mcdermott ferrule, I think. I'll see if I've got some pics of the old one to compare it to.

I'm just surprised a new ferrule can make such a big difference.

Quite a bit longer? Low deflection ferrules are small and made of light materials. Sounds like the new one is quite a bit heavier. If you want to get it back to where it was, you will have to replace it with a ferrule the same weight as the original one.
 
Comes down to end mass. If its heavier then its going to deflect more. The last ferrule I got replaced was really long, over an inch. It played completely different than my old one which was the type they use on the OB classic shaft.

Your only option to get it back the same is have the same make of ferrule put back on.
 
Was it an Intimidator series shaft? I-1, I-2, or I-3?

If so there is a carbon fiber cylinder that passes through the ferrule, making replacement to original spec highly unlikely by anyone other than McDermott.

No, it's a Genuine, which are now their Star range, I think. And it was replaced by McDermott, which was why I wasn't too concerned with there being a huge difference in how the new ferrule played.
