circassian walnut bentwood triangle rack

Pricing

I was asked about price. Let me know what type of wood veneer, and I will give a price based on that. There is a wide range, and some of the veneer species are much harder to bend which results in waste or complete rebuild in some cases. They turn out really nice though. I really like to trade so feel free to make an offer of trade.

Craftsmanship..... A question

Someone asked me about the above photo of the Persian walnut rack. It does appear that you can see saw marks in the veneer, but the lines are not saw marks but figure in the wood. Often walnut species have multiple types of figure overlapping each other. So the rack is perfect AND pretty.

Lacquered burls....

Lacquer on burl veneers turns out really nice, the surface takes on the texture of the burl figure so that it looks like hand-tooled leather.

Should I start another thread in the main forum to show my work if we cannot sell things on AZ any longer? I didn't want to start another thread but on the other hand this thread is titled circassian walnut and I only did one of those....

Merry Christmas to another happy customer; lower price

Please check my feedback as another happy rack owner has added to my perfect positive feedback. If you would like one of these they are cheaper now that I have refined the process of making them. Considering the prices of custom cues, having a nice rack is an affordable luxury. Let me know what your favorite wood is. I like the look of the chestnut burl, but the feel of the carpathian elm burl. I have an F.E. Welker rack-counting device from 1907. There are only 3 known examples among collectors, and I think mine is the only fully working model (There are 4 mechanical functions that must work seperately.) You can see one in Stellinga's billiard antiques book. Anyway, the original 1880 bentwood triangles are the only type light enough that the rack weight does not sag the spring of the lever arm, but I didn't want to use my $700 mint original one which is why I started this project. Now that they are perfected I am going to make another Brazilian rosewood one so that my Welker can be used. Merry Christmas!

Kling inlaid rack project....

The inlaid sides look so good with more walnut around the ebony, I am having to completely retool and rework everything to make extra wide sides. But it will be worth the wait to have a rack match the tables.

absolutely love mine! never see ANYONE else that has one like these with all the of the tables I do around the country a year..... but they're starting to catch on.... thanks John!

Thank you, chosen one...

I am glad you're so happy with it. Yours had the most unique veneer I've used, it looks curly, spalted, burled, all intersecting in that part of the log. I'll bet most wood people couldn't even I.D. that stuff....

Please leave iTrader feedback

If you get one of my racks, please leave feedback. Thanks!

Nine-ball

I tried and failed to make diamond-shaped bentwood racks, in case more than one guy is curious. The middle joint curve can't be made to reliably stay in shape. I am working on some killer stuff though...the guys all say they like how light these are. I have been working on one to match my accountant's Brunswick "Royal," an Arabesque model from the late '20s. Will post pics...but I have to buy equipment to finish it.

Brunswick "Royal" rack

Anyone have a BBC Royal table? Thinking about making another matching Royal triangle, only more elaborate than the one I made for my accountant. Any interest?

Second from the top? That is Carpathian elm burl

I like number 2 in this pic.

Did you mean second from top? You were wanting a "hardwood" rack, right? This is hardwood inside, then veneered with a beautiful and rare, but less durable burl veneer. I have never damaged one though. You want that instead of walnut? Let me know...

I will go with burl veneer please. Pics sent out on tues.

Production ...slight delay

I have to apologize to several guys about a delay in making their racks as my form broke, and the form is difficult to make. I am making a walnut rack for someone, and it turned out crooked and had to be scrapped because the cracked form would not remain straight under tension....so I have to start over. Working on it guys, thanks for your patience. I should get these done and delivered by Christmas.

Unknown, ultraexotic burl goes to a good home...

This thing had so many different types of figure, it is hard to believe it is all on one piece of wood...

Carpathian Elm Burl FS/T

Would rather trade for an interesting billiard artifact as I collect antique billiard items. This burl looks like hand-tooled leather in person as the lacquer finish takes on the texture of the burl exactly. A beauty.
