Samsara Break Tips?

I’ve tried numerous break cues and shafts trying to improve my 9 ball break. I’ve been using an Omega J/B cue with a G10 glass ferrule/tip combo which I like, but I’m not getting the spread after the break that I see players I play against who use Predator BK2 break cues get. My cue does jump balls well, but I can’t control it as well with the G10 glass ferrule as well as the cues with hard leather tips.

My latest idea is to go back to my old J/B cue which had a phenolic ferrule/tip combo on it and put a Samsara break tip on it to see if that will work better for jumping and breaking with more control. If this doesn’t work out I’m going to buy a Predator BK3 with the sport grip when they come out the first of next year.

Any comments on break cues with Samsara tips would be appreciated.

Samsara tips are great. They jump as well as they break and have great control. If you aren't getting the spread you want you may need to hit the rack differently or (believe it or not) back off the speed a little.

Not long ago I downloaded "Breaking Shane's Way" from the TAR website. After watching this I can decide what ball I want to make in the break and where I want the one ball and the cue ball to be after the break.

Most definitely get a samsara tip. The BK3 ain't necessary at this point

I was using a phenolic break tip and just got tired of the miscues on off center hits. I just recently had installed a Samsara tip on a spare shaft and absolutely love it. It's hits like a ton with much better control and holds chalk well too. I would highly recommend one.

The G10 has more pop at contact with CB. It takes some getting used to. I would start taking a little but off your break and using the stroke and follow-through to get more spread. Then it becomes a great combination.

Where were you finding that video as I couldn't locate it on TAR's website? Thanks.

Hey James,
I've experimented with every j/b and tip/ferrule combination I could think of. I tend to revert to:
1) Phenolic ferrule with Joe Picone's White Diamond tip
2) Samsara j/b tip on an old XBreaker shaft

Definitely more control with the Samsara tip/Xbreaker shaft combo but the White Diamond jumps great and seems to have more of a crushing effect on the break. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods my friend.

Samsara

I have a Gilbert J/B with 2 shafts (these shafts are almost identical in weight and feel). On one I have a samsara tip on the other I have a ultra skin HH. The samsara gives me a harder break, better jumping ability but sacrifices a bit of control compared to the ultra skin. I am still experimenting with both.

This basically describes my set-up on my little el-cheapo j/b cue, a 4 point palmwood J&J. One shaft has a double black linen ferrule and white diamond tip and the other has a Samsara tip and their standard cheapy ferrule.

When I'm really hitting the break well and playing a lot, I use the shaft with the white diamond (it's silly how well it jumps, too). Lately, since I haven't been playing much, I've toned down my break shot and am using the Samsara tipped shaft with great success on my break shots. Excellent CB control and usually getting a very good spread. I have not used it much with respect to jumps, but it does not perform nearly as well as my other shaft set-up with the white diamond.

The other night, I was warming up with a fellow league player and he asked to borrow my break cue w/ Samsara tip (he's a APA SL 5 in 9-ball). He couldn't believe how well he was breaking with it. In 7-8 consecutive racks that he broke, he made at least a ball, with 2 balls going in on half of the racks, with better than his average CB control and a much better spread every time. He even asked to buy it from me....lol.

Samsara makes a superb quality tip, no doubt.

I've used the Samsara JB tip on my breaker and jump cues for a long time. Would never go back to phenolic or White Diamond. I think you lose too much control with them.

Thanks everyone for the information and ideas on Samsara tips and break cues!

I just got 2 Samsara tips in the mail today and I put one on my J/B cue shaft and I had a chance to hit a few racks with it. I'm very impressed with the hit and the feel of my cue with the Samsara tip. It feels like a different cue compared to the phenolic ferrule tip combo I had on it.

I cut the phenolic ferrule tip off and installed a hard ferrule (white material i'm not sure what it is) and put the Samsara tip on it and it hits the rack hard with a lot more feel than I had with the phenolic ferrule tip combo.

So far so good and the true test will be my first match in my 9 ball league. Let me see if my break improves and I start getting more chances to run out from the break.

the samsara break tip is fantastic. you might also want to think about trying one of those combo tips. they're mixed between g10 and leather. the G10 is in the center for breaking and the leather is on the outside surrounding the center g10 so you don't miscue if you hit the side and not the center while you beak

As I previously posted I just put a Samsara tip on my break cue and love it. Practicing last night on my 7' Diamond many times I put in 3 on the break, one time I put in 4 and once I put in 5 on the break. I had never done that before.

Who makes that tip?

Look into odega tips? We all use to use Samsara which are great but have switched
