Earl is a disgrace!

It wasn't the "crowd's fault". Is anyone really saying that it was? I don't know how it's possible for you to not notice that these threads are filled with Americans heaping scorn on how the American players played. Mentioning that the Euro fans behave like chimpanzees seems to be off limits for you, though.

Lol.

God, it never ends. This man is a machine.

Incidentally, Bob, you seem to care a lot about this for someone who professes to, erm, not care about this...

....Earl might be a lot of things, but he's not a curse word user.....

i already posted @ Day 2. let me elaborate "rare form":

he cussed us out, for complimenting/supporting him. and in front of Johan.

and it's on videotape.

Yep, it would have been a hell storm.

But, doing what's right is not always easy.

I am not a JFK fan, but he was like Obama and made some great speeches. In one of them he challenges the US to put a man on the moon.

"Not because it is easy, but because it is hard"

CJ Wiley, either influenced or lead us to believe he influenced the selection with the help of Johnny Archer.

And for the person who noted my suggestion for these young players, I ask you how many people do you think knew ANY of the European players.

Ken

I think the right thing to do jn the selection is to put the best players forward. The young talent you selected are simply not as good as the players who repped the US.

This would happen, of course, if there was a tour and ranking system. We lost the tour a few years ago, and now it seems that there will be no ranking system with only three tournaments in 2014.

All true. I think some pool players have developed a delusion that the Mosconi Cup is something other than what it is.

When there were ratings, it was like being invited to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Now, it's an exhibition of top players and some showmanship. The short races are all about the rolls and the quick pressure. All the participants are on edge trying to gear up from the first rack. You snooze one game and... sAng_angryspin.gif

Earl's the classic aging champ trying to regain his fire. His methods don't fit the tournament venue. His actions are similar to what I've been exposed to in the bars and pool rooms around this gambling country.

I've been there when other HO Famers and world champs have gone off on their opponents. One of my fondest memories is Willie Mosconi chewing my ass because he disagreed with me about something in front of a crowd of pool legends. It wasn't pretty, but it was off camera. :grin-square: So, I can laugh about it.

It's tough for us to tell Earl what to do. We can only send him the message and hope his close friends will talk to him about it. It'll sink in with a little help from his compadres.

After all...when you mention pool to a civilian, what do they say? Minnesota Fats? And we all know what his claim to fame was! to-play-at-billiards.gif

Best,
Mike

Had you rather your daughter date a rapper, basketball, baseball, or football thug then?

Pool players come in many flavors. There's the Christian Pool Players Association; for example, Tommy Kennedy, Nick Manino, Ron Lils, and a few others whose names I can't remember. Here's their website: Christian Pool Players Association.

One of the things that attracted me most to pool when I was younger was that the pool rooms I went to seemed to be color-blind. There was no racial tension, like there was elsewhere in the world. We had ballroom dancers, lawyers, doctors, construction workers, SES-ers from NIH, you name it.

Yep, there is a diversity in the pool world of players, I think. :)

....The American audience needs to step up their participation and put the coals to Team Europe.... Hell, it was at our home turf and all I could hear was "EEEUUUUURUP!"....

i call BS!!!!

for the 1st time EVER, we US crowd CHEERED like none other! (finally) we were hoarse by morning of Day 2. i bit a hole through my fingers, from whistling - and i was the ONLY one who could whistle! i pulled every muscle in the back of my legs from STOMPING my COWBOY BOOTS:
U-S-A,
U-S-A,
U-S-A.

bullsh1t.

apparently yáll couldn't hear/see the stands, but whenever those 5 Germans, or my 2 Brits, or my 1 Scot started chanting - Euuuu-Rup....we IGNITED & drowned them. (and i flipped them off)

mmmkay
"Earl was constantly being distracted and talking to the "EEEUUUUURUP" part of the crowd. They're a part of the Cup and antagonize the players. Nothing wrong with it. Most sporting events have their hecklers."

this may be the single dumbest post in all 27 pages of this thread, and that's saying a lot because there are a lot of idiotic posts from a lot of people defending Earl's behavior which was like a 3 year old.

The American crowd was great. I have no idea what telecast your were watching. Chants of USA dominated on the first and second days and European fans were barely an afterthought. It was only on the third day that the UrrrrrOppp yells were really heard.

And as I said before, it's fine for Earl to act like a moron and do stupid shit on the side if he is acting out about his own play, good or bad. However, it is in no way ok when he talks when the other team is shooting or when he talks down to his opponents, berates them, or throws his own teammates under the bus. He also DID use the F bomb several times during the stream along with the others.

It just astonishes me that people with any kind of a brain can defend his behavior. Amazing.

And yes, I know Barry wanted Earl to be Earl for the ratings. I get it. He also wanted Earl to disrupt team America as he knew he would. All of that is fine and dandy, but for anyone to excuse Earl's behavior is just stupid.

I like watching Earl too. Hell, part of the reason anyone even turned it on the third day was to see an epic meltdown. I know I want to be tuned in when he finally goes Columbine on a spectator or pulls a Petroni and bashes his own head on the end rail. But it's akin to rubber necking to see a car wreck. Barry would do just as good by putting a pool shooting monkey on team USA, except it might be better for team unity. All the "Earl Monkey" that was on there did was fling poo at everyone.

^^^^THIS^^^^
apparently YOU, are the only one who "gets it".

You dont think it did happen? Who are the better players you would have sent?

....As soon as team USA started loosing, the crowd went dead....

@ Day 1?
@ Day 2?
@ Day 3?

you weren't there. i don't know what yáll DIDN'T HEAR - but it apparently was, A LOT.

for the 1st time EVER, we OUT CHANTED the Euros.

(and i have no voice, to prove it)

You dont think it did happen? Who are the better players you would have sent?

I don't think there was a ranking system this year in use. Rather, since this was the so-called "legends edition" of the 20th anniversary of the Cup, Matchroom went by word-of-mouth recommendations from trusted and/or knowledgeable people in the know.

As far as better players, who would I have sent? That's a toughie. I haven't been out on the tournament trail in a long while, and when you see these players up front and close, how they conduct themselves in the heat of the battle in a tournament -- ON and OFF the table -- you gain an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.

Shane is a given, I guess, so I would have sent Shane. :)

Oscar Dominguez recently had a strong showing at Turning Stone and the U.S. Open. I'm not sure how active he is playing pool today, but he'd be a good contender. People like him too. He has that charisma effect when you meet him.

Some of the institutions I deal with, they will not let a person engage in any of their activities unless they've been involved with them for at least 2 years. Personally, the Europeans living here in the States, I don't understand why they should represent Europe. Karen Corr has been living her a long time, yet she represents Ireland. Same with Allisin Fisher representing England. It is something I have always wondered about, I guess. :p

Very, very true. Couldn't have said it better myself.

You're right, I wasn't there. It doesn't mean my impression from the monitor is bull$hit.

Or, did you mean to say that my personal observation was not really equal to what you observed being there? That it's deceiving and perhaps I should try and understand the point of view from a crowd participant? Or just, "bullsh1t?"

Congrats on being lucky enough to be there and help out our team! I was doing the same thing, but you probably didn't see or hear me throwing things around the room. I did swing a couple of times, but never found a chin for it to land on...lucky for them!

Don't take it personal. I would've been cheering them on right next to you if I was there. I'm actually applauding people like you who did care enough to get out of their seats and turn up the heat on our home field. sFi_flamethrowing.gif We (you and I) just need some backup! Don't be mad, Sis!:grin-square:

Best,
Mike

wrap your heads around this, and hang-on, as a Duke & UNC former rugby GF -

it's what they do @ EuuuuuRuuuup.

while yáll may sit & criticize the "etiquette", it's Standard @ Europe....
yes, i said it.
They, function under pressure!

Earl was selected for more than 1 reason....
he FUELED Team Europe.
and Barry's no idiot.

we (USA crowd) did our part & the ratings soared @ Europe. so yáll sit behind your keyboards in a silent, boring, "ëtiquette" match, and ponder this -

- and the future of Pool.

You guy's made some good noise. I watched the streams on u-tube and there were spots it got too quiet for me. No disrespect. Maybe it was the stream.
